Pretty much out the Blue. Said he was closing his practice here (Deep East Texas) and moving himself and wife to Montana.

I have to wonder if that was a well thought out decision? Pretty sure once he experiences a Montana 'Winter' he might have second thoughts.

In recent years a number of Texans have been moving to Montana and Wyoming for various reasons. Most aspiring to live in a Rural area where I assume the folks and culture would not be that different than Rural Texas.

However....I don't how folks from those two States view 'transplants'. I know the influx of Californians to my State (Texas) has caused a rift in some cases.

I've met some really great folks from Kali....fleeing oppressive taxes, cost of living and politics. I've also met a few just taking advantage of the lower cost of living here but bringing the same mindset with them... that in my opinion ruined their State.

I don't now exactly why my Dentist left....but I do know neither him or his wife have any family in Montana. I hope they like it there (beautiful State) and that the people they meet will be accepting of them.

I have no idea if your dentist is capable of good decisions or not. You might be surprised to find out why.

Montana is a large state, and weather varies a lot. Also, people can travel, or simply stay home during the coldest weather.

Not everyone has to go outside and tend to their herd in -40.

Where are they moving to in Montana? There are blue towns and red towns, but their acceptance will depend more on how they act than their politics. I would say that Texans aren't viewed particularly well up here but neither are Californians. I'm dating a 6th generation Montanan and I feel bad for her and her kind with the massive influx over the past 20 years, the last three or four in particular.

As for the winters, as @jimh406 says, you can always escape them. Plenty of snowbirds here.

If it is anything like the left side of the state your dentist needs some NASCAR training. The incredible speeds are my biggest objection to moving there.

Is he opening a new practice in Montana or just retiring? They can make a good enough living to enjoy retiring early and start a new adventure.
My last dentist retired early during the Covid restrictions. She is younger than I am and thought she would be around a few more years than she did. Still trying to find a new dentist around here that I will trust working on my dental needs.

10 years ago I saw a television program about Montana farmers and loved the scenery and rural nature.

Don’t recall program name or area of MT.

I was smitten, but the Mrs. not-so-much.

Just seems odd someone would emigrate from Texas to Montana. Would think opposite, but this farm boy is VERY poorly-travelled…..😳

A bit outside of Billings is my understanding.
I've driven all over Texas many times and I'd say that Eastern Montana is more like Texas, and Billings is about as far East as I'd want to go in terms of living. Sheridan, WY is pretty awesome and I've spent a fair amount of time there and it's only 1-1/2 hours from Billings.

These are the kind of pit toilets we have in Montana! How would you like to have some relief in this spot?

That view sure beats the side walk in any big city that I ever visited. Looks like a great spot to shit and shoot😂. Might be a little rough come winter time though.

I guess it all depends on the person. I've been in a few different parts of Texas. I don't remember any views like this one. I guess we are lucky we have a a lot of variety across the US.

Note: this is just a "normal" Winter view out one side of my deck.

There are many issues with American transplants. Primarily with those migrating from left leaning states to the country life states.

One is the fear that they'll bring their socialist politics with them. Affecting their small town low crime rates and moral values.

But even worse, and this hurts even the left winger socialists in small towns... Is the money the state to state imigrants bring with them. Look at small towns in Idaho. Idaho hates Californians the most. So many folks sold their million dollar homes in CA and bought in small towns in ID. So why does that matter? One may ask.

It matters because that 10 acre lot that a local ID farmboy or gas station attendant could buy for 20 grand and build a house and raise a family on...
Is now worth 250 grand! The locals are priced out of their own hometown.

Considering what is going on at the border, I don't doubt that he just wants to get away from it all. Can't say that I blame him at all. We are all being overrun by illegal immigration. One particular political party is hoping that all these illegal immigrants will eventually become voters and will secure their future to run the country the way that they see fit without any interference from the other party. How many times have we given illegal immigrants citizenship as a reward for breaking our laws thinking that the last time will be the final time that it happens? It has happened twice in my lifetime.
