Hi all,
The history: My neighbor, in her late 70's, got a dump of snow. There is a B7200 her friend leaves on her property to use, in an unheated shop.
Went over to plow her out as I had last winter. Not mine, called the owner for permission, checked oil, hydraulic and fuel levels. Battery had a minder connected, so should be fully charged. Glow plug lit up, counted to 25, depressed clutch, and tried to turn it over. Nothing. Did the same thing again, and still nothing.
It's not mine, but would like to have it up and running before it snows again.

Any suggestions?
Thanx for any help

The starting system on a B7200 is brutally simple. Only interlock is a safety switch on the clutch pedal.

Did ypu decompress? Make sure its out of gear and jumper battery (+) to solenoid.

When you say 'nothing', what exactly is happening?

Is the starter engaging and turning the engine but the engine does not fire?
The starter does nothing at all?

Answer Dustball's question -

I think you are saying it will NOT turn over - which leads to a safety switch, if it spins and NOT fire, it more likely fuel. I think you are saying ZERO spin?

I would look carefully at what OLD Hokie said - the clutch "switch" can be a PITA - if it is real cold, it may not be making contact correctly - I have a B7100 with a bad clutch switch, too lazy to change or fix - so I bypassed it, which was very easy , even temporary. Simply take the two leads and make them touch thus bypassing the switch.

One thing that often causes trouble is trying to run a diesel in cold temps on fuel which had been purchased in warm weather. I see Hedley at -8C which could cause fuel gelling.
Remove it and polish the cable end and the spot where if touches the frame.
You can jump the starter following this picture but remember you are bypassing any safety systems so best to have someone in the seat with the brake applied.
Starter jump.jpg

Expect a spark as you do the jumping. The engine should crank immediately if the battery and cables are good.

Clutch was fully depressed. Will clean the starter connections, and check if the interlock is making contact first before trying to start it again. If that doesn't work will try jumping it I guess
Will report back with what happend

The starter did not spin (did nothing, with clutch fully depressed). Am guessing it ran earlier this year as I believe the owner used it this summer. Tractor was inside a closed unheated shop. Gelling shouldn't have been an issue, as my old Massey started and I plowed my driveway fine, but our properties are too far apart to drive it to plow her place with all the curves and hills on the main highway (and no back roads to take).

Yes, zero spin. Will check the clutch switch if I can. Then will try the bypass suggestion if I can turn it over by jumping the starter. Again, it's not mine, so don't want to damage anything.

Will report back with results.

Thanx, as someone else suggested I'll check the clutch safety interlock, clean a few contacts. Then will try to

Thanx. Am going to check the clutch safety first if I can, clean a few contacts to the starter bendix. Last resort I will jump the starter.

Will post any results.

Often this is what the frame end of the ground cable looks like when someone is having starter issues.
The connection is tight by useless!

If your cables have these repair ends time to bye new cables.

Pretty sure they are factory cables, but will check. Will clean the contacts though. Don't believe it's a cable connection because the glow plug works, the lights are bright. (I was wondering about the fusible link though as a possibility). It's really warmed up (+4-5C / 34-5F) for the next little while, so the rush is off for a few days re: plowing snow.

Are you certain your model has a fusible link? Some wiring diagrams for B6200 dont show one others do.

The fusible link will have a white plastic connector and a small loop of green wire.

If you don't have or know how to use a multimeter, get a 12 volt test light. It is a great tool for trouble shooting and easy.

Attach the alligator clip to battery of any ground. Touch the tip to the small terminal on the starter and at the same time turn key to Start. If it test light lights that would be good to know but if it does not, then you need to try jumping the starter.

Please advise if you can find a fusible link. The 12 volt test light would make checking if the link has blown easy.

It's also possible the ignition switch is shot. I had to replace one in my B7200 a few years ago as it would not start (but you could still glow the engine)

Keep in mind thats a 40 year old tractor and many people have replaced the OEM fusible link with something different. For example when mine blew it was replaced with an ATC fuse holder purchased at a local auto supply.

I do not think his glow plugs would work if a fuse of any type in the location was blown.
In my earlier post this is the wiring diagram with no main fuse I was referring to.

Thats correct. On a B7200 nothing works if the fusible link is blown. I dont see the relevance of a B6000 wiring diagram.

Maybe the B7200 wiring is the same as the B6000 wiring or at least 'close enough' for basic trouble shooting ??

Hopefully someone can post a REAL wiring diagram, here and in the new electrical section as trying to troubleshoot electrical gremlins with the WRONG diagram will be very, very frustrating !
