Greetings, newb here.
as the title says i have a 18yo Green tractor that like me is old and tired, but wanting to upgrade size and ability. I am currently looking at the L3902HST and the L3560HST-LE.
both with loader and backhoe. I have about 15 acres mostly wooded semi-level but with hills, but will be clearing areas for buildings as I go. Recommendations and suggestions for options welcome and appreciated.
Thanks

Good day. If you have some pictures of the property or more description of your intended uses you may get more responses. I wonder what you plan to do after the clearing / construction? Any other uses? If only clearing construction I would wonder why not L47 or M62? Or maybe a compact track or wheel loader? Plans for other uses long term? 🥃

Mainly snow removal, some brush hog use.

The 60 series is a more luxury tractor. It has an excellent HST transmission with a lot of features that may not be apparent in a short test drive.

The L3902 would normally be a bit cheaper and more of a value for money choice.

Other than raw HP I'd expect the L3560 to be a more capable machine - a bit heavier, stronger hydraulics.

What is the price difference? If the L3560 is similar price or cheaper than the L3902, then I'd say it's better buying. If the L3560 is materially more expensive, then you need to decide whether the extra features are worth the money for you.

I believe the main reasons to get the Grand-L are:
  • Mid PTO (if you want to run a front snowblower or broom - there isn't a mid mower available). Having said that, I think the SE may leave the mid-PTO off
  • Cab, the standard L I think isn't available with a factory cab (although that may have changed recently)
  • The transmission and associated features
  • I think the loader stick is a bit more ergonomic
  • Do they have the same backhoe? I can't recall

Agree the 3560 would be a more capable machine. If you're working in the woods, the 3560 has a larger frame which may be a factor for you (looks to be ~5" longer and 4" wider than the 3901).

The 3560 should allow you to adjust the rear wheel width for greater stability, whereas my understanding is the standard L (other than the 4701) does not -- at least not with R4 tires.

Thanks, the loader is heavier with the LA805 and Backhoe is the BH 92 so there is that. also getting 3rd function, fluid in rear tires and a 72" quick attach blade. has me at $49k and some change, same options on the 3902 is $47k with the lighter LA526 loader and BH77 Backhoe

Might as well spec out an L4760 and get higher capacity loader, 3 point lift and front axle.
Or buy a MX for the same money and get heavier yet.

I'm not sure of the price difference between the two tractors but, if the L3560 is in the budget, that's the tractor I'd purchase. It's a much more capable and substantial tractor and after reading your post, I think it fits your requirements better than the standard L series alternative.

If the L3560 would have fit in my garage/shed with the rops folded....I would have gone that direction but, alas, it didn't and I'm perfectly fine with my Turbocharged L2501! Its been a great tractor!

There's a big difference between 800kg of FEL lift and 525kg of lift (the FEL number is basically lift capacity in kg). Depends if you have any jobs that need that much lift whether that matters. I seem to recall the BH92 is also quite a lot more capable than the BH77 - do I recall quite a bit more range of motion as well as just power/depth? A wider swing arc makes a bit of difference when trenching and dumping the spoil off to the side.

I have the next step up from the GL3560. Get it! The Grands have many features that are nice. Yes on the LA805 and the BH92, it is a beast for what it is.

add mechanical thumb for BH92

air ride seat

3rd function

2 rear remotes

hydraulic top link

QH

HD bucket and cutting bar

on the BH92 get the quick attach option and you’ll be able to start collecting useful buckets

front and rear work lights

I'll add my appreciation for the L3560 LE. I don't have the backhoe as I couldn't cost justify it. If I need to do any backhoe work, I'll just rent a mini ex. Good luck on your deciding and your purchase. Either machine should work well.

I would not get a tractor for snow removal without a cab.
I walked behind a snow blower for years. When I bought our tractor it had to have a cab.
I do some woods work ,just have to ba careful of the cab glass.

I have a L2501, so same frame size as the L3902. I convinced my friend to go Kubota and he bought a L3560. I have used it quite a bit helping plant food plots and other things. The L3560 is a much more capable a tractor due to hp, size, loader capacity, upsized backhoe and luxury features. For a $2000 price difference, I would go with the L3560.

However, I actually enjoy loader work on mine much better. It is very difficult to see what you are doing on the L3560 and I actually like the joystick better on mine over the fender joystick on his, which is supposed to be more comfortable. But, that can easily be overcame with frequent use and it may also be what I am used to.

I'd still take the L3560 over the L3902.

For what it’s worth if you have hills, and if it matters (not sure the set up on your green machine) , I’d consider which ever machine has the best stance for hills. In addition to that mentioned by others above, I’d recommend asking dealer about leadtime for the BH, and if they are not sure I’d handle that as a separate order so you can take delivery of the machine quickly. (My BH was a 6 mo wait a few years ago and I had to split the order just for that reason…and recently I’ve seen that members have similar and maybe longer waits on BHs.). It’s worth a check IMO. I am not sure about the difference in features in those two machines, but once you make it to that range there is no harm and pricing a MX…they will tote a BH92 as well…may not have the features of a grand L, but their price can surprise. Good luck and keep us posted. 🥃

If you're pricing the MX, might as well throw the 4701 in the mix :). Larger frame than the 3902, smaller than the MX. Close to the loader capacity on the 3560 and same backhoe (BH92)
