We have a LA1002 on our 6800 and I managed to break the gland nut on the main hydraulic cylinder. I called thinking I’d just get a new one and was quoted $450. Anybody got a reasonable solution to repairing this thing?

Was the $450 for the nut or a new cylinder? Making a nut is pretty easy but a repair shop would notdo it cheap.

Have you visited Messicks site and priced that nut..?? ‘ I”m seeing the nut for only $80. I’m wondering if your/we are using the correct nomenclature. Doug (svc dept mgr) at messicks is really helpful.

I just checked and one style you can't get the nut and the other style is 400 for just the nut.

I looked on their site and forgot to calm them today. I sent the guy I was dealing with at the Kubota dealership the same pic that’s posted on here and he called it a gland nut.

Yeah, by the time I buy the seals etc I might be better off buying a whole new cylinder. I was quoted like 1k for a new cylinder. I haven’t tried to disassemble it yet to see what else might be damaged. Are there any aftermarket cylinders that are any good?

Try a local hydraulic repair shop. They might just have a source for the gland nut. Kubota buys the cylinders, and I would be inclined to think that a good hydraulic shop would have a catalog to look for that particular part.

A grand for that cylinder is crazy and there should be plenty of perfectly fine alternatives. What's the bore and stroke on the cylinder? You can probably put two new matched cylinders on it for half that cost.

Yeah I tried yesterday. Just measure the old cylunder;
  1. Retracted length center to center of the pins
  2. Extended length center to center
  3. Width of rod and base ends
  4. Diameter of pins
  5. Diameter of cylinder
  6. Diameter of rod
That will be close enough to check availabilty and prices.

I have the exact same loader… LA1002 5R1 …. SN A0410…
.….….and I’d better not see you sneaking around it!

🤪

PS: are you sure that first digit in your SN is a “5” and not an “S” or some similar alphabetic..?

I checked it this morning. It’s 50318.
Makes me wonder how they come up with/designate Serial Numbers.

My materials bucket also has an alphanumeric number.

That does not sound realistic. An 8" diameter tube and 4.5" rod is mining equipment. Are you perhaps measuring circumference instead of diameter?

Oops, yes.
31 1/2 center to center retracted
53 1/5 center to center extended
Tube is 2.602183 diameter
Rod 1.432394 diameter
Head on rod that pin goes through is 2 3/4 Wide
Pins 1.25 diameter
Does that look more like it?
