I made this dog bone tombstone for a girl friend of mine who's pride an joy pittbull Champ had passed away back on Fathers day of this year. In a conversation with my girlfriend she was telling me that she wanted to make some sorta marker for her beloved dog but wasn't sure how. So my gears were grinding and I came up with this dog bone!

Yeah your like me right past the 6 pack thing,,,lol,, And no I dont have any idea what the price tag was, we were looking for a stone for a Brother that had been T boned by a woman texting on her cell phone, Clamined she wasnt but her phone records show she was typing right up to impact,,
However with that in mind Im sure a google search of Pet Markers would give you an idea,,, A lot more than the cost of a bag of quickcret I would bet, a nice little side thing to maybe get into, people spend a lot of bucks on their pets

Thats like my 4th little trinket of stuff I've made out of concrete. I did two pineapples for my mom and a police car for my brother. I don't happen to have pictures of the others so I made sure to snap this. I came up with all these ideas out of sheer boredom. I draw out a shape on a piece of 3/4 inch plywood, cut it out with a jig saw and then take aluminium flashing and screw it into the sides of the plywood to make like a wall then fill with concrete.

Thanks Paul,

I made it large or purpose not knowing how she was going to have it placed. I made it thick so if she wanted to stand it up on its side and have it more dementional she could, also that way she could pick it up and move it to mow the grass and put it back. But we went with sticking it in the ground instead!

I tell ya one thing that sucker is about 6 inches thick and HEAVY. Almost used up an entire 60 pound bag od cement making it. I want to say I had a little less then a 1/4 bag left. Maybe 10ish pounds or so in the bag and that would put the bone to about 50ish pounds.

Might be a good time for Kubota to start manufacturing cement mixers :D

WELL it's back to the old drawing board on this tombstone that I made. I caught up with my gal over the weekend and we were at her dads house where I learned that the lettering has fallen apart. My gal told me a few days ago that one of the letters had a "chip" in it, after inspection its more like a hunk is missing.

Come to find out the lettering I used was some kind of composite particle board of pressed cardboard. Whatever material it is, it's not ideal for use outdoors and surviving the weather. That's what I get for going to a craft store I reckon.

SOOO do any of my handy, crafty friends out there have any suggestions on where to find weather proof lettering? I tired Lowes thinking mailbox lettering but all that had are number or stick on letters.

You could pour another one and use the same type lettering but in the mold itself. After it cures you should be able to either chisel them out or burn them out.

There are cement lettering kits but they are not cheap. I know my daughter has a kit that she makes cement bricks with but I don't know the name of the kit.

Have you done a web search? Or, when you make your mold, use a router to route out the letters. Use something for a release agent, so that the dried cement will come out cleanly.
