in the market for a grapple

So I'm in the market for a grapple for my L3901. I've looked at the Land Prides. There are 2, the SGC0660 which is rated up to 40 hp and weighs 250#. The other is the SGC1060, rated 30-55 hp and weights 389#. I don't want to sacrifice lifting capacity, but should I be more concerned about durability in the grapple? What are some other good makes and models?

Higher HP tractors typically produce greater GPM of hydraulic flow, which is partly the reason my M5 with an LA1854 loader can lift more than my L47 does with a LA1300 loader. The hydraulic pumps on the L47 close the gap in that comparison a little more than the tractor HP might indicate though so….YMMV.

There's typically a correlation between hp and weight of tractors with the assumption that higher hp tractors are heavier. A heavier tractor is likely to put more stress on the same model grapple used on a lighter tractor, particularly if you're using the grapple to dig and pull.

I just received a MTL RG7 that i purchased for my L3901. I will be posting a review of how it matches up to the tractor as soon as I get a valve plumbed in.

But based on my experience so far I can say this right now. The MTL grapple is nicely engineered/constructed, prices are VERY competitive AND they ship almost immediately. No pay now followed by weeks or months waiting for the implement.

I called the dealership over a month ago for a grapple and 3rd function, still waiting. So I'm just continuing to shop around. Mostly, I plan to use the grapple for debris removal rather than digging. Trees come down on my property pretty often and dragging them by hand sucks

I have a L2501 and ordered a SGC0660 in may. The dealer said kubota recommended the heavier one but as you noticed it is at a loss of capacity. He said most were going with the SGC0660 so I agreed and ordered may 10. It was supposed to be here in mid june. That has been moved to august so I am patiently hoping it shows up this month. I installed a summit 3rd function already.
Has anyone else ordered something from Land pride in this period and received it yet?

Watching the weight is a good idea. The L3901 with the 524 isn’t a forklift. I have grabbed some wood with my EA double lid that the loader couldn’t quite lift.

The L3901 has the same FEL as all the standard L’s other than the 4701 so the lift capacity is essentially the same. The standard L’s are kind of right at the cut off point between the 06 and 10 series grapples, the metal is the same in both. I don’t think you will hurt the grapple with either one and you do lose lift capacity with the greater weight. The 10 series comes in a wider variant but if you are staying in that 60in size it doesn’t matter. I went with the 0660.
it is interesting how some dealers can’t get stuff from Kubota but others can. I bought my tractor in late June, like the third week. Ordered my grapple and it came in early this week. Will be delivered tomorrow. As you can see others are still waiting and ordered before me. FWIW I have not paid a penny towards it until tomorrow when it arrives. My money is not tied up with anyone during the order period. I like that. If that doesn’t matter to you EA makes a comparable grapple but you pay 100% up front.

Since weight is a concern, I’d consider dropping down a grapple size from your bucket size. I did on my LX and MX. LX had a 60” bucket, went with EA 55 grapple, MX has a 72” bucket, went with EA 60 on that one. Probably could have gone with the 55 on the MX also, but would be over the horsepower rating if any issues arose. There is pretty good weight difference in the 5-6” difference.

Yep, I did the same and ordered (and received) a Wicked 60 which weighs 400 lb compared to the Wicked 66 that is 600 lb.

A 530 lb grapple for an FEL rated to 1,082 at the pin? 580 lb if it's the 72" model.

I have a Everything Attachments Wicked 55 grapple on order. I'm at week 15 and expect it sometime next month (hopefully). The Wicked 55 is probably one of the strongest (if not the strongest) grapple made in the 55" range, but you will be paying up front and waiting a while for it. I wanted maximum durability and glad to spend my money on an American made product that has outstanding customer support.

You need to add "lightest" as well. That's a big deal to me since I don't want to lose lift capacity for large logs , rocks etc., because 50% or more of the lift capacity is consumed by the weight of the grapple. The EA Wicked 55" grapple is only 239 lb and yet incredibly tough as shown in the recent pecan tree video. Also, look at the weight distribution of EA grapples relative to the pin and compare weight and weight distribution with other "US made" grapples.
