Had this tractor 5 years now and always wanted to build a cab for it. I wanted it to be removable as well. This is where I am at so far. Glass is ordered and goes in next week in Trim lok gaskets. No doors yet but they will come.

Wow...nice work! I dream (almost fantasize) about building one for mine.

Are front supports tied to loader frame? Can loader still be removed?

What size is that canopy? Is it for the L3901 or another model?

The plan for closing area under & behind seat

The loader can still be removed. I cut a small square hole (1.5” square) in the floor and used an existing bolt to connect it. The right side mounts on an existing bracket and I’m going to put one bolt there to hold it in place. The rear comes off by splitting the ROPs at the joint.

The roof is an aftermarket one I got from my dealer. It had a bracket that connected to the ROP with a bracket which I got rid off. I only kept the fibreglass part for this build.

To close in some of the openings I am going to use some sheet rubber and/or fabric. Still sorting that out.

Very nicely done! Are you going to heat it? If so. how are you going to do it. It is good enough to go into business making them.

I plan to add wipers, heat and lights.

The heat is being researched to decide best option. My main goal is to not wreck this tractor.

I purchased a 12 circuit fuse block and battery shut off so I can run a power feed to the cab and tie in the various lights, etc.

I have no plans to make or sell these but will share details of how and where I connected to the tractor.

This is a work in progress and I am designing as I go a bit. I do have some fancy tools to help such as a laser scanner and access to a CNC plasma which was a bonus. The pic attached is the cardboard template being scanned to turn into a cutting file later.

Stano,
Looking good so far!
I noticed you said you're designing as you build. Please don't take this the wrong way but, I caution you that you need to be thinking 3 or 4 steps ahead so you don't fabricate yourself into a corner. My lack of planning got me into trouble a couple of times on my cab build.

Hope this helps and keep us posted of your progress.

I’m looking at diesel heaters for transport sleepers currently as a front runner for heat. I am trying as much as possible to keep this a bolt on/removable. I don’t really want to cut into the engine cooling system.

Anyone install one of the diesel heaters and have good or bad experiences. I’m looking at a brand name one (Webasto or equal) not the knock offs. They run around $1,200.

Yup. Theres a few Wooden cabs with those diesel heaters on here and TBN. I was looking into them when 2 big side jobs fell in my lap and I bought the factory cab instead. The videos show them to be quiet and really pump the heat. I found a few on Amazon for $150 I think...

For my build about 7 years ago I went with a 20,000 BTU aux. heater for around $150 plus some plumbing. If you search for "AH454 Heater" you'll still find some places selling them for just a tad under $150. Tapping into the engine coolant circuit was easy. I designed my cab to be removable but only removed it the first Summer. It was much simpler to lift the doors off and run that way in warm weather.

My heater connections could be broken near valves for removal. This meant disconnecting a couple short hoses and losing maybe a cup of engine coolant. For a few bucks it would be very easy to use a couple QD's like Swagelok makes with internal shutoffs like the hydraulic hoses on the loader etc.

I'm am familiar with the webasto heaters. They work very well but I don't think they would work very well in this application. You are concerned about modifying your cooling system, I get that, but you will be modifying the fuel system that will be irreversible as you would have to drill holes in your fuel tank. Also, webasto heaters don't like bouncing around while in use. They like a stationary State while burning. They carbon up and will not fire up when used in rough conditions. You will be far more ahead putting in a coolant fed heater and it will be reversable if u choose to put it back to original. That is my two cents. You have done a very nice job with your build.
