If the engine runs fine and the price is right, the hours do not matter! Maintenance is more important than hours. With good maintenance you may go 5,000 - 15,000 hours (and up) on a diesel engine.

I've got 5200 hrs on an Onan 2 cyl gas engine!!
Good point. Make sure to ask for maintenance logs. If he laughs, red flag!

It runs well. Moves good in lower gears. Acts like clutch is out.

It has a hydraulic shuttle? Any chance that would be the issue?

What is a hydraulic shuttle.

Ok. I'm back at the house and not posting via my phone.

The sellers (two brothers) are straight shooters. They have construction and logging operations.

They obtained the tractor with a property they bought. Apparently they get a lot of offers to buy this as it sits by a busy road. They have asked around at local shops about this failure to move itself in higher gears and the answers they have gotten is that it is a $2000 fix ??? and they estimate the tractor at $7500 operational and are selling at $5000 minus $2000 for repair and $500 for unknown costs.

Other issues are: (1)no operational ignition switch, must jump the solenoid. Really not a big issue as this model has a fuel shut off lever.
(2) Loader control lever linkage is extremely loose (lots of slop) but still operational.

I am assuming that the whole issue with no movement in higher gears is the clutch, but that makes no sense since with the hydraulic shuttle shift the clutch should have been used very little.

Again, thank you for any input. It looks rough, but I'm kind of growing on it.

I would be careful with the tractor, odds are its not the main clutch, but rather the series of clutches for the hydraulic shuttle. They seem to be shot. I would look into if they are still available from the dealer.

CobraTom: That sounds like a DOA for the deal. I can not even find the parts schematic for that on Messicks.
Go strait to Kubota's site and you can see all the parts.
https://apps.kubotausa.com/illustrated-parts/

And I don't know if all the parts are available or not for that model.

I would lean more to it being a mechanical clutch issue as it's very very rare for the hydraulic clutch to fail in that fashion. ;)

Here is what you can do if you are willing to spend a bit more time on the deal.

Hook up a implement to the PTO. Mower, Tiller, hydraulic pump, whatever so long as it makes the tractor work a bit.
If the tractor runs the implement without a problem, the main dry clutch is fine and the hydraulic shuttle clutches are toast.
If the tractor can not run the implement or is slipping, hydraulic clutches should be OK, and the main dry clutch is toast.

Either way.. something is toasty.

Also, please remember that the hour meter may have rolled over, and it could have 10,730hrs.
I have a machine here that is newer and looks much better, with 8600hrs.

That only works if it has a single clutch, if it had the dual clutch option that's not going to tell him if that's the issue.

Just by the looks of it there is no way that has that few of hours on it. ;)

No such option for the Hydraulic Shuttle version.. Only Single Clutch was available.

I’m about average at turning a wrench. I’d be useless at turning back time on this tractor. I’m leaving this 3350 for someone else’s project.

I really want to thank everyone that gave input and advice. It was educational and appreciated!
