Is diesel pickup truck synthetic oil proper for our tractors?

I have an MX5800. When I did the 50 hour service myself, I just bought Kubota oil from the dealer. I'm at 200 now, and would like to use synthetic oil, but I'm wondering if I can use Mobil 1 full synthetic for diesel pickup trucks? Is it still the correct type of oil?

Also, I like to use Lucas fuel system treatment in my vehicles. It says it is safe for gas and diesel engines. Would it be OK to add some of it to my fuel system periodically?

For me I use Mobil One T6 full synthetic and change once a year.

I like Amsoil and use it in much of my equipment but for the tractor the T6 changed once a year is what I do.

I use Stanadyne the grey and white bottle for each tank. The white for winter and grey for summer.

The MX5800 requires an oil meeting the API CJ-4 oil specification. Most oils will also have a list of manufacturers specifications that are met or exceeded.
Just ensure that it is CJ-4 or better and it will be fine for your tractor.
It calls for a 10W-30 or 15W-40. Everything we run up here (1700+ pieces of diesel equipment) runs a 40 oil for heavy duty use, more viscosity protection so I tend to stick with the 40 oils as well. The first W number is going to depend on your working environment. If you live where it never gets much below freezing then a good old 15W-40 will work well for you. If you do get northern Alberta cold like I do then drop the first number lower, this allows the oil to flow easier at lower temperatures. I run a PAO full synthetic 0W-40 year round in all of my personal diesels (expensive but I get oil at cost). At work we run 15W-40 year round in the units that run 24-7 (less expensive oil) and 5W-40 in the non-constant operating units and gensets.

Anything that has DIESEL on the label is ok.

It's really not truck oil.....
basically two categories.....gas and diesel .....

same more or less oil properties in both....but other stuff added and taken away depending on which one we are talking about.

T6 is full synthetic, cost about 23 ish bucks per gallon at wally world - great stuff, if you like Mobil 1 - make sure IT has diesel on the label.....


In you neck of the woods.....get the 5w-40 variety......

Shell Rotella T6 comes in two flavors, 5W-40 and 0W-40.

I like the 0W-40, even though it rarely gets below freezing where I’m at...

If your oil filter is an HH164-32430, you can go larger with a Fram PH16 or even larger PH8a filter.

Using Fram only as a reference, I prefer Wix XP 51515...
RockAuto has Fram Pro Synthetic for $3.44, this is the Fram Ultra Synthtic used in oil change shops...

it will be hard to find cj-4 rated oil it was change to ck-4 very little cj-4 left look at walmart for 2.5 gal jugs some chevron delo 400LE full synthetic 5/40 still around

It will say on the API stamp that it is backwards compatible to CJ-4

When you talk about the T6 "not coming close", in what way do you mean?

I have read that T6 is a very robust oil, and I know Amsoil is good as well. But what factors or data are you using to determine one is "better" than the other?

Napa has it, it's not cheap, but it treats a lot of fuel and works incredibly well.

Soltron is the best, I agree! Any NAPA can get it if they don’t have it. It’s worth asking for. I put it in my boiler fuel oil tank as well.

T6 will be great on older engines. Any synthetic will be. And all the old wives tails are false about switching.....

I stopped in a national auto parts store last weekend to pick up some oil just to have on hand. Asked the fellow behind the counter where the oil was for diesel engines.
He said, all oil is the same, oil is oil, just use regular 10w30.
