If I’m correct, the New 80 series BX have the sweet spot for FEL and mowed rpms show. Right on the tachometer. If true that’s good learning for a noob like me.

The new gauges in the 80 series are sweet, just as you mention, clearly shows recommended RPM ranges for FEL & PTO. This was an area I felt the KB was way ahead of the other color tractors, and their cheap looking gauges.

I've found it performs very well with lighter tasks at the low end of the RPM range. And yes, as the load scales up, throttle is needed.

When you really think about it, ~20 HP is quite a lot considering the mass of the tractor. If you're throttled correctly, no way it will fade before traction.

Just sayin'....

I paid $14,864 for BX2380, standard FEL (not QA), standard 54" MMM (not drive over), FEL bolt on cutting edge $114, delivered. MSRP $17,258, so that's about 14% off.

I realize I'm late to this thread, and I congratulate the OP on his decision, but want to add 2 cents for anyone else in this position, as I was myself 2 years ago.

I really wanted the BX2370 (the then current model) for all the reasons listed above, and the price difference wasn't that much. But I really needed a deck no wider than 48" go get through an existing gate and negotiate numerous narrow trails. The 48" deck is only available on the BX 18xx series. I even asked if it was feasible to retrofit the the smaller deck to the 23xx, but it would be involved, since the deck wheels mounts don't clear the larger tires.

My dealer told me I wouldn't miss the extra horsepower, and I trusted him, especially since he had both machines on the lot and presumably wasn't going to make more money off the less expensive option. I also took some comfort in the fact that smaller tires mean a lower center gravity, which is a positive for me since my land is very hilly.

Now, two years later, no regrets with purchasing the BX1870. I move a lot of green firewood and heavy rocks up and down my hills with no shortage of HP. It's never stalled on me. The only time I've noticed any significant bogging is trying to chip 4" or larger limbs through my PTO chipper, but at that size they should be headed to wood piles anyway, so not an issue for me.

The 2380 is a fine choice; so is the 1880. For me, I can't make use of the additional HP, and do benefit from the slightly smaller size.

Was a tough decision between the 18 and 23...I’m sure I would be happy with an 1880. I know the 2380 will be more tractor than I’ll wver need....Well on my current property!

Decision made. Nothing left to do but get familiar with the new machine and enjoy it. I don't think there was a 'wrong' choice to be made between the two for the duties you described.

I have just over 20 hours on my 2380 and I could not imagine my life without it. I got it primarily to grade and fill my back lot. I have already moved quite a bit of dirt up and down the hill. I had the dealer load the rear tires (R4), I keep a box blade on a QH on the back. The box blade is an incredibly useful attachment and provides ballast. I also installed 2" spacers on rear tires. Ballast, loader rear tires, and spacers add quite a bit to stability. When woking with loads, always use 4wd (low range), keep the FEL low to the ground, take your time, be safe, HAVE FUN.

Just swung by dealer...delivery tomorrow morning. Have the manuals for good reading tonight. I plan on taking loader off/on a bunch of times and the deck a couple times to get used to it. Then move some snow banks around to practice bucket work and get used to overall feel...I’m pumped!

The most important thing I've found on the FEL R&R is to do it on level ground. It can get a bit dicey if it gets tilted in relation to the tractor. When everything is level, it's a piece of cake. With practice, you should be able to get it on or off in 5 minutes, and that's taking your time & being careful.

I keep a little note card in the fender box to remind myself of the lift vs curl effect when doing the FEL R&R. Off= raise, curl up. On= curl down, lower.

I got my bx2380 a couple of weeks ago. Same set up as you 54 mmm, qa bucket, loaded tires. I paid $16500 and think that was a decent deal. My 11 year old has moved the snow banks around a bunch, but I'm really looking forward to mowing down nice the snow melts here in Vermont. Congrats on your new tractor. You're going to love it.

Yes...please let me know about piranha too. I never knew they existed and boy do I need one! Do you need a special drill for installing them? I only have a dewalt cordless.

I think I may be the only one on here disappointed that I did go with the 1870 instead of the 2370 2 years ago. Everyone on here said the 1870 could do everything the 2370 could do. I personally feel the tractor bog down a lot in thick grass. Also I do not like the tiny tires in the front. Another thing I was hoping the bucket would be powerful enough. The 2380 has over 100 lbs more lifting capacity. That is about 25% more which is significant especially moving gravel or rocks. There have several times the FEL would just not lift. So I am sucking it up and trading the 1870 for the 2380 tomorrow hopefully. I got quoted 15,500 with 54 deck. They are giving me what I owe on the 1870. Excited to have that "extra power"

If you decided to trade it in, check how much extra would 2680 be over 2380. It gives you few extra ponies and a bit extra weight. When I was getting mine few years ago, I was debating between BX2370 and BX2670 and after testing, I'm glad I went with BX2670. I never had a chance to test BX2370 in the same conditions though.

On the other hand looking at the bucket specs it looks like all BX have the same lifting capacities, so technically there should be no difference between 18xx and 23xx. I would check the hydraulic pressure first.

As to the Piranha tooth bar, your cordless drill should be fine. Just make sure it is fully charged, drill a large pilot hole and get one of those step drills to slowly enlarge the hole to proper size.

I drilled my with a cordless ryobi drill, and step bit from China. That Dewalt will do find. The steel is soft on the side of the bucket.

In my situation, I was deciding between the 1870 and 2370. I went with the 2370 and regret not going with the 25D. LOL I've needed that stupid backhoe 100 times in the past year and at the time couldn't justify the extra $5k for it. Kicking my self now. Looking to trade the 2370 in on a 23S now. Gonna lose more money in the long run this way.
