This might be better suited for the hunting thread, but I ran over a mouse with the snow blower that must have been crossing the driveway beneath 8" of snow! 😦 At first I thought I'd run over dog poop, but after backing up I could see that it was a little mouse or shrew.

We had a lot of snow overnight so time to fuel up the MX and start moving stuff off the driveways and parking areas. Here's a short 50 second video of the blower and snow blade in action. If nothing else you can listen to the sound of the MX running at 2,350 rpm blowing and 1,800 rpm pushing.

This is what I did on my Kubota today. I plowed then plowed again, plowed yet again and you guessed it...plowed again.

Poor tractor.
How much did you get over where you are. You probably saw this Friday night. We are right where the "+" is so we expected a lot of snow.

videoframe_161225.png

I plowed 7" Saturday afternoon during a lull then this morning 3" or 4" more - not complaining we have enough. The wind came up later in this morning and it's really moving the snow around now . Will have to plow again tomorrow.

Gave the MX5200 a 2 hr workout moving white stuff around first thing in the morning. We had 12" of powdery snow. I can't wait to get a snow blower. Cleaning up a 300 m driveway plus parking area with FEL is fun but not efficient...

I've been hesitating between a conventional blower and an inverted one. The more I get used to the tractor, the more I'm favoring the inverted model. The only use case I can think of where a conventional blower would be better is for maintaining logging trails on hilly terrain. Perhaps I could get an old one eventually.

Ordered some DuoGrip Tractor V-Bar Chains for the rear tires this afternoon from CanadianChains.ca. That will come in handy when it starts melting during the day and freeze again overnight.

A few years ago I bought a used Land Pride SB1574 for a decent price and it's a beast compared to the front mount blower I used to run on the BX25. It works really well, and I'm able to turn my body in the seat when running the blower such that it's not a big strain on my neck looking out the rear window. However, if I ever want or need to replace the blower I'd look at one of those pull forward type blowers too.

We had snow, rain, freezing rain and then back to snow last night into this morning. What a miserable mess to to move. I used the rear blade to break it up and then blew it out of the way with the blower.

This afternoon the temps dropped and now it's snowing and we have whiteout conditions.

Yep, I been busy today. Yesterday we got over a foot of snow but it just keep come down. Did end up plow the main part of the driveway just to be sure we could leave if we had to. Woke up this morning to another foot!! But the wind has been blowing like 30mph+ and creating some high drifts. One part of my driveway must have had 4 feet!

It was pretty cold today. Wasn't looking forward to being on the tractor. I'm sure cabbed guys are laughing, But I bundled up and got on the tractor. The sun was out of of the time so it really didn't feel that bad being that it was only 15f.

You can see the wind blowing like crazy in this picture, there was one point when I was pushing snow down the driveway, the wind blew really hard and it was a complete white out, I couldn't see a thing. Just stopped and waited. The Kubota did its job though without much complaints. I was surprised how much snow it pushed even with some ice underneath. It plowed right through a 4 foot snow drift.

I shoveled this by hand, this the most snow we had in years no question.

Well that's it for me today. Peace lol. I'm going to go stay warm. Can't wait for spring, I'm sick of this crap. Not complaining about the seat time though...already at 72 hours!

Side note.....it's been around 12 hours since I last greased the loader so I did it today before going out to plow and was getting frustrated with my dewalt grease gun..it wasn't working at all!

Might help if I put a battery on it 🤣

Good thing you got a tractor. The quantity of snow you’ve gotten so far this year looks like it would have been asking an awful lot from an ATV plow.

Looking at the photo of your tractor and snow blade, is that the position that you typically have the loader and blade in when moving snow?

Nope, I did that because I was too lazy to put the parking brake on. Just hopped off to take a quick pic.

Typically I keep the pads level with the ground and the cutting edge although depends...sometimes I do tilt it a little to scrape better.

Did firewood today, it did get up to 28F today. It was nice not to have to walk around in mud, it was all frozen. First picture is of 2 80" logs with a 60" log. The second picture is 2 80" logs.

One of the tree a cut hung in another and was able to use the grapple to get it down. At times like that, it would be nice if the bottom teeth were a little longer.

I should start a winter recovery business! This evening the neighbor's daughter (not the tenant) managed to drive her Toyota hybrid off the driveway and into the ditch. Her dad tried to pull her out with his truck and got stuck. Then the tenant came home and tried to pull the dad's truck out and now the tenant got into the ditch. Needless to say, I get a text asking if I could help so it was time to start up the M6060 again.

There were three vehicles blocking the driveway so I had to make my own way through my field and up the hill in 2-1/2ft to 3ft of snow, but the M6060 managed it without any trouble. First I pulled the tenants truck out of ditch and he backed down the driveway. Then I pulled the Toyota out of the ditch and it was dead weight since for some reason the dad couldn't move the shift leaver out of park. Once it was sort of back on the driveway I used the rear blade to widen the driveway to allow both trucks to come up the hill and past the Toyota.

The tenant was first up and he was back in the ditch after passing the Toyota, and my neighbor had to stop behind him. I went back up the hill to pull out the tenant's truck and then both trucks were able to make it to the house. I figured we were done since it was just me, the M6060 and the Toyota so I headed home. I was almost back when I got a text from the homeowner saying that he'd managed to start the Toyota and get the transmission out of park and asked if I'd come back and pull him up the steep section which I did.

I was playing with the rear blade as I was coming back down the driveway (twice!) and figured I'd clear some snow for them. I made some disparaging remarks about the rear blade for snow removal but it actually did quite well on that driveway. What an adventure!

The M6060 is really the only vehicle I have that's capable of doing these recoveries in deep snow. My neighbors had to call a tow truck when their daughter did this about a month ago! I remember pulling out the tenant's daughter's car two Christmases ago on Christmas Eve or possibly Christmas morning, and a tow truck company wanted $500 or so to come out. Nice to have a big tractor that can handle these situations.

Makes sense. I have rod level indicators on both tractors which are basic but useful. I also will sometimes tilt the blade forward a little to get the edge closer to the ground.

Mine is set for the bucket...so it's not very close. I suppose I could loosen the bolt and adjust it to my liking, probably make things faster haha

The rod alignment for the bucket and front snow blade is the same on the MX. The pallet forks are another matter altogether with the "sweet spot" being about 2" away from the bend in the rod.

That, or a driving school?
In Fall when it started to get cold out I put standard snowplow markers on both sides of the cabin driveway at the turns, and in the middle of straight stretches. Not a long driveway but a lot of markers. It helps vehicles stay on the drive and especially for acting as guides when I'm plowing. Never lost a vehicle off the side because nobody wants to hit a marker. 🙅‍♂️
