Welcome to OTT Nightwind. Congrats on the new toys. Welcome back to Orange. Which version did you get DT, GST, HST, or HSTC? How much land and what are you growing?
I have 7 acres and I have a garden. HST model. I grew up a city boy but fell in love with Tractors and playing with them. I also have a 1953 Diamond Jubilee Ford and 1952 Harry Ferguson TO-30. Nice to be here and looking forward to sharing.

EDIT:
Moved a portion of the thread to keep from hijacking original thought!

What is the serial number on your 53? mine was 74,147

- first tractor and it was a fantastic one.

I almost shed a tear when I sold the ol girl - however, I just bought the BX 3 days before! One had to go!:D:)

Re: New L4060

I'm picking up a Ferguson T-20 or T-30 tomorrow.
It was given to me, for free, I can't pass a deal like that up. :D

Wolfman, pictures please. Some of us do not get to see those old tractors anymore without going to a museum. I wish I had the one my Grandfather had.

Uh oh, I was driving past an old formerly nice farm nearby and saw something orange sitting under a tree in one of the pastures...the place has been for sale for several years and is getting run down. There is no excuse for leaving a tractor out in the rain like that....maybe it needs a new home in Idaho...

Night wind, my previous tractor was a 1950 Ford 8n, which I have just sold to a using home, but after driving that vintage you will think you have died and gone to heaven with your 4060. Like a Cadillac compared to the old ones! My 3560 is same chassis, smaller engine.

you said a mouthful there, grabbing the steering wheel and man handling the front end on the 53 was always work, shoot get on the BX and it drives with a pinky......

but I still miss that machine, would start and run all the time....little smoke, little slow on hydraulics in the winter....but what a mule!

Re: New L4060

What a difference in the old ones vs newer. We still have a '79 MF 255. Always starts, uses no oil, and pulls like an ox. The Perkins engine is bullet proof and has torque out the wazoo! The M5140 is like you say sheepfarmer, a Cadillac by comparison. Comfort and hydraulics are much better, but there's still something satisfying about driving old iron with tons of weight and torque.....feels like driving a Bradley (tank)!

Re: Other Tractor NEWS

Picked up the TO-20 today, what truly amazes me is this tractor has not been started or ran for over 4 years and it only took me about 15min to get it started.
When you all see and hear what I'm ultimately doing with this tractor it will shock most and tick a few others off, stay tuned. :D

Parts for these monsters are about 100th of what Kubota parts run!
makes it much easier doing what I am doing. ;)

Here is one rough but running Ferguson TO-20

Also got the Landpride 72" blade, three point drawbar setup and the 3 point power scoop included in the deal too.

I've got 7 or 8 other tractors, mostly all AC D series, for the heavier work. All are Gas tractors, cept a MF205 import. Keep it around to remind me how much easier to get on and off a Kubota! Main reason I went to old Kubotas, is they are lighter to haul, and use little fuel...:D

Wolfman, that tractor is a dog. RUFF RUFF :p :D
I agree, if it's for free it's for me.
Assuming an old tractor, or anything, is not a show piece modifying it is not a problem for me. It will then do what you want/need it to do. ;) :) Why do people do/make mod's to new tractors?

I looked at one a few years ago - TO-30 ......parts are a little harder to get than 8n's but still out there and like you said - cheaper than Kubota !!:)
