Passed these Sand hill Cranes on the way home today.

Oh man, I love Sand Hill Cranes but have never seen anything like that group up here. Every spring/summer a few hang out on the wetlands below me, and a pair roosts up above my place. It's amazing when they fly down to the pond below me in the evening. They glide down in close formation making their distinctive calls. I have seen a pair with a chick on a couple of occasions.

The picture doesn't show 1/3 of what is actually there. If you stop they spook, so i took the picture at 35 mph or so.
They started wintering out here in Southern IN. 15 years ago give or take.
There will be huge numbers here soon. You can hear them night and day. Quite the spectacle.
