sadly, I measure how good a day it was , by the bandaid count, as I have OMS.

A longer PTO is good, as you can always cut it down. Lots of info about how to cut as well as length.
It needs to be short enough the 2 sections don't hit. Maybe 1/3rd overlap ?
Measure for the full range of 3PH ( fully down to fully up ) there's some 'weird' geometry involved.

Also, slather on 'rustcheck', neverseize or similar, install/remove ends several times unless you want to hire the octopus next time.

Ok, so hopefully last post to torture you guys with this subject. AgriSupply sells the adapter (1 inch round shaft to male 6 spline 1 3/8 for the implement shaft. Then will get their PTO shaft (plenty long enough; item number 102246) with female 1 3/8 6 spline on both ends. One end has retractable collar (tractor side) and the other end has a "yoke" connection (implement side). Is it safe to assume that the yoke connection bolts onto the male 1 3/8 6 spline cnnector adapter? The pics do not make it clear and their rep was unable to answer that question for me.
I wonder if a series 6 shaft is over kill for your spreader.
Here is some info on how to determine your existing pto and know what will work.

Bought a used 3ph Hurd sander ($600). New ones run in the $3-4K range. Unfortunately, the PTO shaft is too short and is of the old square telescoping tubing style. Also, the sander side of the PTO shaft is permanently affixed with no collar that slides off. Do they make some sort of square tubing extension kit? If not, would a weld shop be able to extend the shaft? I'd also happily get a new PTO shaft but what do I do about the sander end of the shaft which has no collar fitting?
Guess this is what happens when buying used equipment. All thoughts, suggestions, verbal abuse welcome. Thanks.
I have that same Herd 750 seeder/sander that I bought from an ex coworker six or so years ago. I paid around $600 back then and have used it behind open station tractors but need to get it set up for use behind a cabbed tractor. Emails a couple of years ago to Herd didn't get a response.

The other end of the PTO shaft you referenced is probably a clamp on type.

I'm really confused why you are ignoring my posts on the adapter and shaft that's way less money that what your posting?

This is really the best option:
Bolt it on and your done:

But if you want to adapt it:

This fits the shaft on the spreader.
Yes you will need to drill the cross hole since you don't have a keyway.

And this shaft is long enough because the adapter adds 5 1/2 inches to the length.

If you want even longer that you will need to cut a lot out of:

Sorry you had that experience. They ( Paula) were very helpful by telephone and even had the shop send pics of the shaft with a measuring tape as a reference. Turns out their longer shaft may be just a bit short for my situation but I would certainly do business with them in the future.

Not ignoring you Wolfman. Was told by dealer, I needed a series 6 shaft based on tractor HP. Perhaps because of my inexperience, I may not be fully understanding all that has been suggested to me. I mean no offense at all and greatly appreciate all the effort you've put into helping me. Turns out, I ordered the series 6 shaft, and adapter for $200 including shipping. So I will end up paying about half of what I would have paid Herd for a shaft that might be too short.

I'm about to retire from medicine and have contemplated getting a retirement gig at the local Kubota dealer. Then perhaps I will understand a a bit more about tractor function, etc.

Again, thanks for all your help.

Yep on cutting shaft. Had to do the same with my chipper shaft.

I get where they are going with the PTO rating, but they have it backwards it's not the tractor rating it's the Implement rating that determines what size shaft you need.
Did they get you a 1" shaft adapter too?
But bigger is almost always better, I just hope you have the clearance for it.

Yes on the adapter. And I see your point regarding HP of implement. And if I don't have the clearance, only have myself to blame. It will be a learning experience at the very least, this is what happens when I buy a tractor that is smarter than I am, lol. Thanks again sir.
