Hello, I have an Avant 635 with the Kubota V1505,

It has been leaking oil, and I suspect it is the main seal, as it is all wet but that is besides the point. It was brough out onto a jobsite and the guys were told to keep an eye on the oil level as to not run it dry. They ended up putting all 10 ish quarts into the motor, along with the 5-6 it already had. I drained it back down to operating level, but now whenever the motor is above 2500 rpm, it starts to burn a lot of oil, misfire and die. The idle is lower than it was, but from 1000-2500 rpm it runs fine.

If anyone has any sort of suspicion or help to offer it would be much appreciated
Thank you

The engine requires 7 quarts of oil. Needing one qt. added and someone puts in 10 qts. ....... someone needs some training!!!

How long did the engine run before the error was recognized? How long has it been run after the oil volume was reduced back to normal level?

I am not sure how long it was ran like that before it was noticed. But I did go out and drain the oil to the correct amount. It was ran for probably another 2-3 hours once fixed and they noticed the issue.

I just went through the CCV system, and nothing was clogged or full of oil

That over full it probably pulled/pumped oil into a lot of unusual places. Give it some time to suck it back and burn it off.

I have let it run today for a while at various rpms, and it still does the same thing. That was the first thing I tried, to get the oil warm and let it burn off or run back into the pan, but I'm thinking it might have blown out internal seals and possibly the rings

Not sure what type of emissions are used on the engine but you may want to force a regeneration. But I would have a few good fire extinguishers around in case something horrific happens during the regeneration process.

Sounds like it could have broken the rings.
Or it could have damaged the EGR valve is so equipped.

A few pics of the engine that they used might help narrow it down a little.

It is not equipped with an EGR, but I was leaning towards broken/blown out piston rings being that the CCV system was not clogged or oil filled

IMHO, as long as it didn’t hydro lock it shouldn’t have done any more damage than it had to start with.

I just talked to the guy that did it, and he put 15 quarts in it. And when they drained it it was all the way up the dipstick so it very well could have hydrolocked from the crankcase side

That person has no business diddling with any thing mechanical, especially an engine.

Subtract out some wages each payday and let him pay for his actions (if you're going to keep him around). That's how people learn!

Make the right thing easy and the wrong thing difficult.
