I have had all 3 since new.

They all bark hard & then settle down in maybe 2 seconds or so, & run at where the throttle is set(idle when I start them) The tachs never show the engine running wide open. It is like a bit of extra fuel for starting. It seems like the governor would open them until rpm comes up to set point.

Many older truck diesels started open as well.

I have had a couple tractors with rosa-master pumps and they seem to do the same?
Kevin - - I just got back to this.

I think what you're seeing is normal for your equipment.

I thought it odd that all of your equipment, as well as older trucks had same problem.

What you deem as a "Run Away" for 2 seconds is far from it. Normal operation.

Here's a little article about Run Aways.....much different from what you describe.

Exactly.

A runaway as someone described earlier is not my experience with a runaway.

The old Detroits could runaway with stuck rack or many engines have runaway from turbo oil as well.

I seen an old detroit runaway from sucking gas fumes from a station vent while unloading.

The older diesels all seem to start with the gov wide open come right back to the throttle setting.

The last big truck I ran had an x15 cummins with full electronic control and that behaved a whole lot different!!!
