BX-tractor shift fork failure

My 2021 BX2380 has just developed a problem where it is stuck in the high range. The shift lever moves fine across the entire range, but the tractor remains in high gear. Took the tractor to a dealer. The service department said that it is likely the shift fork has failed. They are quoting a repair of about $4K. This is a bit unexpected since the tractor barely got 200 hours on it, and I cannot think of anything other than bad metallurgy that could have caused it. It always shifted with a bit of resistance or hesitation but then it "snapped" to where it simply moves back and forth with almost no effort. I am thinking of leaving it as is since I mainly use it for mowing and front end loader work. However, the dealer indicated that if I leave it this way, the transmission may disintegrate because of the broken fork pieces in the case. Apparently there was a TSB on a broken shift fork but my tractor is not in the specified range.

What do you think I should do?

If you can shift the lever and feel the detents, then a broken shift fork is a definite possibility. On the other hand, the roll pin mentioned is much more likely to break than is the shift fork.

Hmm, good question. I am going to call them tomorrow and inquire. They were pretty confident it was something inside

I would think a 2021 would still be under power train warranty?

No, I just traded in a 2021 and the warranty book says 6 year or 2000 hours

I am not sure why they are "seeing" anything? You can call Kubota and they will tell you how much time is left on the warranty

You should go to dealer and examine roll pin 80.
If pin is broken, show manager the pin then INSIST he put what he saw (broken pin) in writing. Then load tractor and take it home. I wouldn't allow them to touch my tractor again even if it was free.

If pin is not broken I would take tractor home and pursue truth on powertrain warranty. If warranty has expired I would shop around for repair proposals.

Good advice but I told them to go ahead. I am new to this area and really don;t know anyone around here who is knowledgeable to do this kind of repair. I recently had issues with a kubota engine in another piece of equipment and had to do work myself because kubota dealer would not touch it and the nearest dealer with engine expertise was in dallas
