So this was Otis patiently waiting for the after hours vet to arrive at 7pm Saturday night. He disturbed a large snake in the long grass on our walk. Saw a big coil of snake flick up but couldn't tell if he had been bitten.
No snake bite fortunately but the vet knew him and my wife by name after his last escapade of eating from the compost pile and not eating for 3 days. 🙄🙄🙄
Was it a venomous snake he encountered/disturbed??!?!

I know you’ve got a lot of nasty serpents Down Under…..

Hopefully everything remains okay. 🤞

One thing about regular snow ❄ is that it’s a great deterrent to alligators, pythons , and most venomous creatures….🥶❄

I think the better question is, does OZ have any snakes that aren't poisonous? 😏

They have spiders that would send me to my grave in short order, and no it wouldn't have to bite me.

Not sure what it was. I think he stood on it in the long grass. A coil of snake flicked up as thick as my forearm. Was a bit overly cautious as it can take up to a day for symptoms to show depending on the snake and how much venom.
Vet checked him over. Tried to get a blood sample but he wasn't having it. She was confident he was OK by the fact he wouldn't sit still or let her get bloods.
Not sure what it was. Guessing by how thick it was, it was possibly a python.
He did freak the vet out at one stage. One of the symptoms of snake bite is the dog will collapse then bounce back as if nothing happened. While she was going through all the things to watch for he did one of his I'm bored flops to the floor.🙄🙄🙄

War Dog---- (I copied this)
This dog's name was Gunner. My uncle brought him back from WW2. He was raised and slept under my uncle's anti- aircraft gun. The gun crew shared their rations to feed him. By the time he was 18 months old, my uncle said he would stand up and look at the sky. If he laid back down they knew all was ok. If he growled and put his hackles up they got at the ready. He knew the sound of the German aircraft and my uncle said he never got it wrong. He said Gunner was better than any early warning system. I'm probably the only one left in the family that knows that story now, so I thought I'd tell it before it's lost forever, like many stories must be from that time. Thanks for reading it.

There are probably thousands of stories of dogs protecting their masters!

I am going to give you all fair warning…there is something wrong in the ‘force’ today…go and make piece with any of your misdeeds or ill gotten gains. For those that follow my pups and anyone who doesn’t, take heed this warning…something is amiss in the atmosphere….never before was this thought possible or seen, yet it happened today. I’d make things right, the world is 🙃. I heard one of the neighbors pigs flapped its wings a few minutes after this photo was taken.

Grumpy, I witnessed the opposite. Was at the farm and let my dog out to do his routine investigations. I was filling water troughs, checking hay sand other chores when I heard him barking pretty seriously. There is one house on the opposite side of the section and nothing else. I have a few cows. There is a creek that meanders through the back side. Cow were in a far pasture. Can't be anything serious, maybe he's got a coon in a tree?

Soon, I see him in the open field below the well and he's rolling and rolling. Yep, when he finally makes it to me he smelled skunky. Windows down for the 22 mile ride home!!

Oh no…good luck.

Yep…The last time mine caught a skunk, and she did catch and shake it without prejudice…lather rinse repeat…lots of time with the baking soda/detergent/peroxide paste…lather rinse repeat as necessary.

2 years ago 3 of ours got hit by a baby skunk, OMG it was bad.
I found a charcoal soap that worked really really well!

We used the hydrogen peroxide, dawn dish soap, and baking soda concoction and lathered him up real good for 15-20 minutes and it took care of it.
