Well today I got my roof top ac heat unit delivered to my farm. I hooked the positive wire right onto the alternator and ground to the block. I set the unit up in its box and started the tractor and the ac unit. I let it run for one hour at 1400 rpm’s. The ac unit has a voltage setting which shows the current level and you can set a level between 9 and 11.5 volts to stop the unit if voltage drops that far. I checked the voltage every 10 minutes, the temperature of the battery and cables and all was cool and normal. The voltage on the unit was 13.9 to 14.1 the entire hour and the air was very cool coming from the unit. I would say it was a successful test and now to order my cab.

hmm. was the hood open all the time ? If so, repeat the test with the hood down(normal operating mode ).
you should also check the alternator's temperature during the test.

When Kubota put ac on their bx models , they add a second alternator to run the 12 volt dc unit. I talked with the Curtis Cab engineer and he said the biggest hurdle would be mounting the new alternator, which to my surprise didn’t take too much cutting and welding.

yessh SECOND alternator ? man I 'd like to see what size 'shoehorn' they used to fit that in,under the hood !!
It does make 'electrical' sense though...KISS and tractor's wiring NOT altered.

I wonder how much, if any, you would get out of one of these mounted in top of a canopy?

I got the cab installed on my b2601 today. It took me about 4 hrs. Tomorrow I will put the ac unit on the roof and see what happens. I already cut the hole in the top.

That's some rapid progress. You'll appreciate the real glass instead of plastic.

How does the area under the seat get closed off? When I built a cab I cut a cow mat to fit. It worked well, but was a wrestling match to get it into place.

I guess I found the drill , I used it to put my mirror on just now. Had to work this morning to pay for my crazy ideas but I finished the ac project for now. I didn’t install the windshield wiper so I didn’t run the wiring for that. I may put a Rigid Light bar on top later. I sold one of my John Deere front mowers and Tuesday I’m going to pick up a Landpride 1660 finish mower and I will be all set. The cab really amplifies the engine and transmission sounds so I guess I will wear my stereo headphones. The ac works great, it should since it’s made for a big RV and I’m cooling half a phone booth. The cab kit comes with a vinyl piece that velcros around the fenders and back window to block off that area. I will report back after I mow during a hot day . The cab cost me $5800 , mirrors were $168 and ac/heat unit was $900. Like I said before , no wife , no kids , no payments and I own a plumbing company so I can piss away money on my projects with out regard. lol.

That's a nice rig. I'm happy for you that the A/C works well, but admit to being a bit surprised that it does.

The noise in my homebrew cab was a bit much as well. Earplugs or headphones were helpful. With the vibration isolation applications I'm familiar with through work - it is entirely to be expected. Add-on cabs lack the proper mounting to prevent the noise transmission. Some people have the idea it's as simple as bolting the cab in place using hockey pucks for spacers/isolators not realizing the bolt just eliminated and isolation value and now they sit inside a "speaker enclosure" anyway.

The noise in the LX3310 factory cab is pretty loud with the cruise control set. I wear my 3M bluetooth headphones when mowing with it. It's not too bad in normal mode if I wanted to push the pedal all the time but the cruise control amplifies it by 15 dB at least. I've measured it at 103dB with the cruise set at max speed in medium range.

I am thinking about trying one of these type AC units on the canopy of my JD without adding a cab to see if it blows enough cool down. Like you said, it's made to cool an RV. I see these on eBay for around $600.

I looked at the $600 ones on eBay too , but the Outequip has low battery shut down protection and just seemed like a better product. The guy I bought my cab from is the manager at a turf care establishment and he bought a cool top the has the big fan in it that goes on Toro golf course mowers to put on his zero turn , he says it work great …until he starts moving and the faster you go , the less air comes down and blows out the back.

Yeah I have tried fans of different varieties under the canopy. Wind direction can cancel them out pretty easily. I am thinking of putting a skirt around the canopy to help with that?

I removed the doors on my DIY cab in warm weather. When the weather was hot, I had a "bus driver" fan directed right at me. When it was really hot, I postponed mowing:)

I sold one of my front mount jd mowers to help fund my project and picked up a yr old Landpride fdr1660 finish mower yesterday and completed my project. I serviced the mower and set it on 1” to mow a couple acres of zosia turf today. Everything worked fine. Maybe tint the windows next

I had tinted (factory privacy) door windows on my F150 for 27 years. Finally replaced them last summer with clear glass as it was a royal PITA driving it from dusk to dawn. After a few 'night trips' , you may want to consider 'side' lighting.

Still impressed it drives in and out ! Curious as to how much clearance do you have ?

About 4 inches. That’s just my little shop , office , man cave. The tractor usually parks in the barn.
