If your engines predate DPFs, yes, they don't have them. I'm specifically pointing out that there are engines/models that shipped with DPFs except for those that the federal agencies bought. You can read more at fordtrucks.com if you care.
IDK what you’re referring to. I work for the U.S. Forest Service and our newer heavy trucks all have the standard emissions equipment.

It’s a secret. OP wants to complain about his tractor and get advice but doesn’t want anyone to know what tractor he is talking about.

Don't worry, the number one polluter in the country is the government.
I see you’re from Canada. That might be true there. It’s not true in the U.S. We order vehicles through standard fleet sales just like every business does.

It used to be cop cars/ fed cars were 'special order' and 'modified' on both sides of the 49th. My American Aunt worked for the USG in DC......

Maybe cop cars, but the discussion was general government vehicles. And in the U.S., governments order from standard fleet sales and get the same vehicle options as business buyers.

Regardless of purchase mechanism, outside of the military "the government" isn't a big user of diesel cars or trucks.

Gasoline dominates and is rapidly transitioning to some variant of electric. For example the postal service plans call for new vehicle purchases to be 100% electric by 2028

I am not a fan of the regen process and now own an older tractor however when I had an L3301 the mechanic told me to always run it at near PTO RPMs and the regen will usually take care of itself. However if I read your post right the regen process prevents you from doing what you need to (robs too much power?)
No, but there are times when you do not want to run the engine at high RPM.

Worse, regens seem to have a habit of starting when one is finished with work and backing into the barn.

Six speed synchromesh, shift on the fly, manual transmission with optional high/low range drop box. I would think it should operate pretty smoothly at any RPM. Vastly better than my unsychronized 4 speed 8N that never regens 🤔

It does, but it's not a hydrostat.

I regularly needed to operate my 6X2 M9960 at low RPM when doing precision/detail work.

Did anyone ever figure a way to force a regen on the newer tractors? It's always stupid times it wants Regens... hard to move apple bins or do hay rides or anything stuck at 2100 RPM. So it gets to sit there for a 20 min regen at 2100. It's got probably 10 hours already just sitting doing Regens. The times that are good to do it it's at 95 or 88 or whatever %.

Indeed.

DPFs/regens are an annoyance at minimum and a potential catastrophe.

It's smooth at 18 even just not past 2000, my 8N is smoother haha....

Sounds like you have too much tractor for the tasks. Buy a 50-60 hp hst, and keep the big one for the big jobs.

They still regen.... also that's the fall. In the summer it's running big mowers and sprayers. That being said I drove the HST models before moving bins on another farm and they are A1

Only been watching your thread, but I agree an HST may have been the better choice for a tractor.

A lot of folks are dedicated to a gear-driven drivetrain of some fashion and I understand that.

Sometimes the more modern options do work better.

What are the options for an M5 tractor? Good size machine. Doubt HST is an option?
