Does regen have to be terrible?

Did anyone ever figure a way to force a regen on the newer tractors? It's always stupid times it wants Regens... hard to move apple bins or do hay rides or anything stuck at 2100 RPM. So it gets to sit there for a 20 min regen at 2100. It's got probably 10 hours already just sitting doing Regens. The times that are good to do it it's at 95 or 88 or whatever %.

It's very annoying...

I am not a fan of the regen process and now own an older tractor however when I had an L3301 the mechanic told me to always run it at near PTO RPMs and the regen will usually take care of itself. However if I read your post right the regen process prevents you from doing what you need to (robs too much power?)

No it's jolty and Jerky shifting at such high rev. Knock apple bins over or jolt people. It's fine in summer spraying the orchard or mowing.... it's so stupid

Knocks my pallets over, jerk my people around on the trailer if doing hay rides. It's like you're always popping the clutch. Tractor dosen't shift right at that high of revs

So you're asking if you can do a preemptive regen? The only preemptive thing you can do is work the engine hard enough so that it's not generating as much soot to build up in the DPF. You can always press the regen inhibit button if it's not convenient to do a regen at that time, but that will put the tractor at PM warning level 2-1 which isn't a big deal. If you continue to use the regen inhibit feature it will become a big deal.

I've gone through a regen with the M6060 while pulling the folding cutter around and it was no big deal at all. I continued to cut my friend's field. I remained in low range, 2nd gear. My tractor has creep, low and high ranges and a 4-speed gear box for F12/R12.

Yes, it has to be stupid. You aren't smart enough to put the diesel engine in regen. (Ha Ha) Well, that's what the EPA thinks. Curiously, many federal agency trucks don't have DPFs. Weird how that happens. It's almost like they know they are going to be unreliable.

In the real world, it's just annoying and the reason I have a L2501 instead of an engine with more HP. It's also the reason people are buying gasoline pickups.

That being said, as long as you use the tractor the way the engineers expected, everything should be fine.

Because of the way that gear drive tractors are often used, and the fact that ground speed and engine rpm are directly related with a gear drive tractor, unlike an HST, I think they go through more regens than HST models. My MX rarely needs a regen but the M seems to need one every 20 hours or so.

I chose an MX and M because I needed the power, weight and size of those tractors, and also because I knew that there are companies around who provide solutions for those that want them. ;)

Maybe, but more likely is you are using the tractor the way they designed the regens to work. They "could" change their design to match how gear tractor users use them.

Many Private Vehicles are the same way… I own 3 myself.

Many “agency” and “public use” vehicles were ordered to a gov-specification in quantity and often stored for years/decade before being placed into service. Just because you see some without emissions controls doesn’t mean they are recently-mfr’d-exempt. Any of us could have made quantity purchases a decade ago and enjoy the same experience.

If your engines predate DPFs, yes, they don't have them. I'm specifically pointing out that there are engines/models that shipped with DPFs except for those that the federal agencies bought. You can read more at fordtrucks.com if you care.

Does it not have a few low gears? Why not put it in lower gear and work it with the revs up? 100hp machine should have some lower gears no?
Lots of low gears but at that RPM when you let of the clutch or even shuttle shift it's super aggressive.

Not saying I have to stop.... I just don't like being thrown around in the cab, my hydraulics going at top speed all while in hauling hay rides or trying to stack bins of apples......

Too be more specific if I'm doing general work it's fine except a bit more out of control feeling. It's just with loader work or anything near people it's basically impossible
