I came across this on Amazon, it's a toy camera. Its digital and fully functional. Doesn't take the best photos quality wise but its just for fun and it's cute.

2nd time to the Grand Canyon. This time it wasn't filled with fog.

I've stayed at the South Rim three times and the North Rim once. That looks like the South Rim but I can't be sure. I had everything booked to hike rim to rim in 2020 but COVID had other ideas.

I've stayed at the South Rim three times and the North Rim once. That looks like the South Rim but I can't be sure. I had everything booked to hike rim to rim in 2020 but COVID had other ideas.
It is indeed the south. North was closed because it snowed 6" that day. We also hiked the Valley of Fire.

50 years ago I visited both South and North Rims for the first time. After that it got so crowded I began exploring the lesser-known parts of Grand Canyon, mainly those accessible from the Arizona Strip (that part of Arizona north of the Grand Canyon). After the roads have dried out (dirt roads only!) it is easy traveling and for sure there won't be crowds. And the viewpoints actually allow you to stand on the canyon rim and look down at the river.
At Toroweap Point. If you look close you can see a line of rafts on the river.

At the Whitmore Overlook there is a trail about a quarter of a mile long that will allow you to hike from the end of the road to the river itself:

At Kanab Point, where Kanab Creek flows into the Colorado River, the maze of intersecting canyons is amazing:

Yup. Most people assume that because we are talking "canyon", this is low desert terrain. But the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is around 7000 feet in elevation and the North Rim is about 1000 feet higher, around 8000 feet. The road to the Lodge at the North Rim doesn't even open till mid-May because of snow. This year it won't open till June:

The elevation was definitely noticeable. We didn't give it much thought. Then I did an 11 mile solo hike with some moderate rock scramble mixed in. I was asleep by 7pm that night 😄

Lots of elk in the field last night. They were still there this morning, but they moved on up the hill through the trees once I let my Heeler out. I don't think they moved because of her, even though she'd like to think so.

I've used the winch on my Jeep far more for moving trees off the road than I ever used it for vehicle recoveries.
My experience is quite the opposite when it comes to my '98 TJ and Ramsey winch. When I lived in Hawaii I'd regularly be asked to winch people out who were stuck on the miles of trails above Yokohama Bay. My friend owns Advanced Towing & Recovery on Oahu and I helped him recover quite a few vehicles in situations where he couldn't get his bigger equipment to the site.

This is me driving up a trail before I bought a used Ramsey 8,000lb winch for $150. That winch is still on my Jeep almost 25 years later. This is also long before I upgraded the suspension to a Rubicon Express set up.

In April of 2022 I celebrated my birthday by spending a week in Sheridan, WY and buying an M6060 from Heartland Kubota while I was there. I went back a few weeks later and picked it up at the end of another trip. I stayed at a very nice Alpaca farm with amazing views of the Big Horn Range.

The owners had an MX5400 which they used for all manner of farm work, including cutting, raking and baling hay.

Interesting past few days at the shop. Last 3 decent size jobs have been related to factory parts prematurely failing. Obviously there can be several contributing factors here, but still. A rarity to see this back to back for us nonetheless.

F550 Came in on the hook supposedly blown engine. I see it in the lot and I'm like, "ole girl looks slightly familiar....just like the one I put an engine in late last year......uh oh" And of course it was.

So time for a quick tear down. I'm going cab up because its only 1.5 hours longer and I dont have to lay across my chest forever.

Luckily the engine wasn't blown. However, in less than 20k miles, the turbo was. They had obviously had her deleted right after I put the engine in. After repair, we verified she wasn't on the "hot" tune and would build boost accordingly. And away her "no warrantied self" goes on down the road again.

By the looks of the e clip covers, i'd say she got a little warm lol. Its a fleet truck for a paving company. Allegedly pulls a paver and roller. So the drivers won't usually stop until the truck or a/c stops.

Next, was the poor soul who owns this 18 f150. Ole feller says shes got the rattles on start up every morning.

Once again, I instantly recognize this truck. Is this the one we got a hold of mid summer last year for the standard vct rattle. Sho nuff is. 52k later. Shes back with a vicious rattle from bank 1.

So time for the tear down. Once again, cab up.....Remember, my chest....its become weak and delicate with my fraile old age lol

And then right after that, a leaky water pump on a good ole 2016 Exploder. And now I'm like," Well son of a mother!". Thinking this was the one I had just done a couple weeks ago.

Well it wasn't, But I did put a motorcraft pump on this F'er 2 years ago & 30k miles.

So tear down time!

A wonderful spot for a water pump....and I mean that...pays well!

And because I missed the ford truck for the day and didn't want to wait (plus the factory motorcraft failed early anyways), this girl is getting an auto zone special. All good to go.....maybe.

She got all new timing components with the first round so I literally reused EVERYTHING this time....all except the ultra black lol.

Hate seeing factory parts fail early like they did on these past 3 jobs. They weren't cheap and cost some poor souls alot of money.

And had they been within our 18mo 18k warranty, we would've handled it. All except the 550. She was a Fleet and deleted.

New means new, it doesn't mean good. Oh well, now its on to a 19k mile no start '20 silverado that will most like be a failed fuel pump driver, dang near had one a week so far.

I stopped by the shop I do business with yesterday.

They were saying that they’ve had a lot of new parts failing….

Had an alternator last 30 seconds….
