Have you ever been mowing, you know in the zone, enjoying the sun and warm breeze, mulching up those pretty but pesky leaves? And you make your next round, and what is that laying on the ground? And you get closer and you see one of your blades laying in the sunshine, like it is some kind of nude beach. And after several naughty words, dismount, slowly cause nothing works to good any more. Then you start searching, and hope against hope that you can find all the parts. No such luck for the hero of this tail I fear, crawling around in the mulched grass and leaves, searching but to no avail.
Ahh well I did get to go for breakfast at the truck stop and spend 100.00 bucks on ORD (6.19)fuel. So its not a total waste and Murphy's has the parts, after a cup of coffee I am off. And maybe I ll get to see the new BX,,,, lmao

It can usually always be worse! 😂

I bought a $400 metal detector to find a $50 wrench ... But since then I've found a bunch of other things, just because I have it!

About 3 years ago I was dragging the chain harrow all around the 1 acre yard with the SXS to knock down mole runs. Got done and noticed the hitch pin & 5/8 draw bar pin gone. How the draw bar stayed in the receiver is beyond me. Guess the downward pull of harrow provided just enough friction to keep it in place.

I did find the hitch pin, but not the 5/8 draw pin.....not yet anyway. I think about it every time I mow.

Family friend growing up would call me after my fathers accident put him in a wheelchair. He would say "I have a project, it's JUST (this thing)". I get there and it's never JUST, it's this that and the other thing and a few more things on top. One day my wife asked me to something "it's JUST ....". I stopped her right there and said "It's NEVER JUST". Then I told her about the family friend. I think she understands now.

Ask this guy:

Pat, not to offend you, but Hagrid's probably too young to remember this.

Given the time I don't mind helping someone, but I expect them to be standing right next to me and maybe learn something. The best is when older people have two or three kids that they don't want to bother. I know when I'm getting muled, when they say I can't do that, everybody can do something. Earnest Hemmingway said, "always do what you said when you were drunk, because it'll will teach you to keep your mouth shut".

Well thank you sweet Jesus , and never seize. I bought that boom crane 15 years ago to lift logs to cut cause they were too big to just roll around, and it sat in the back of the garage covered in dust, and I used it 2 times in the last month,, go figure,, Any ways a couple ratchet straps and the boom, I got the deck lifted after I got the coupler off,, DAYUM ! the collar released but it wouldnt move on the spline PB blast and a small Lady bar and its off, I guess you should take them off once in a while. Boom crane lifted the deck vertical and then try to find my punch,,,, Do any of you guys have tool that just seem to walk away? I hated using a nail set but thats all I could find,,, and lo and behold she backed out,,,, YEAHHHH sharpened the blade and put it on,, OH make sure you have those Belville washers facing the right way, I coldnt figure why the spline suddenly got to short.. DUHHHHH,, More never seize and is back on,, now to put it back on the BX. NOW this leads to another question, has anyone ever put some kind of hose bib on the deck to wash all the gunk out I figure with the blades running and the hose one it would maybe wash it off underneath.

The deck on my Cub Cadet (MTD) has some wash out system on the deck. It looks a lot like the quick connect water hose ends that you can buy. The male side of the disconnect is mounted through the top of the deck around mid blade length. There are three blades but only two of the wash out connectors. The female side of the connector is on the hose end.
