Over n Out works really well for fire ants. Might not work fast but it works. My dad put it out at my grandparents and a couple of weeks later there were brown spots all over that were piles of dead fire ants. We believe they came from huge colonies that were under the many square yards of concrete my grandfather had covered so much of the yard with. It was about 3 years before they were a problem again. I believe it's the same chemical used in stuff like frontline for dogs and the same thing that a contractor would use in liquid form to spray your lawn. Comparing chemicals used in herbicides and insecticides (and OTC drugs) a lot of it is really the same stuff just sold under several different names.

I've been faithfully using bug B-gone for several years now. This was after getting the active ingredient for the most popular brands sold in stores and quizzing my bug man who treats the house quarterly :D Found that it works for ants as well. But has to be applied in a heavier dose around the hills. If not, the ants move to the neighbors for a few months, then come back

I've found that the fire ant baits or granules used in conjunction with the Bug B-gone gives me the best results. :D Course the Bug man treats our house inside and out. A spray inside and outside under cover. The rest of the perimeter of the house gets treated with either granules or spray depending on the weather that day.
