Why would you shoot unless you were in imminent danger? I didn't see the "bear" getting anywhere near him. Shooting to kill should always be a last resort.

I live in bear country. I spend a great deal of time in bear habitat both here in the lower 48 and in Alaska.
1: My first reaction when seeing a bear, especially that close would be to draw.
2: I don’t run from a bear. In 99% of close bear encounters, running from them is a very stupid reaction. From 30 feet away a bear can be on you before you have a chance to draw. A bear can outrun you, out swim you, out climb you, and out maneuver you.
3: Bears are quick, aggressive, and don’t give you a second chance or time to think about it.
4: Your first reaction better be shoot to kill or you will be the one killed.
5 Bear spray works very well on bears that are not attacking you. Bear spray works on bears that are just jogging up to investigate or confront you. If a bear is in full charge attack mode, bear spray is useless.
