Basically, the first implies that the wolf and the basket are together and they, together, were never seen again. The second implies that the wolf was never seen again and the basket was never seen again. Neither the wolf, n*or* the basket were seen again.

Is that a hen or a rooster? Sorry, I honestly don't know. And, yes, it does show the sorry state of my mind.
