BX23 hydraulic leak need help

Hi. Was operating and sprung a leak at the filter. The filter housing appeared cracked so I replaced it, filled the system, ran for a few minutes, then fluid starting spraying at the base of the filter again (at the gasket but kind of hard to tell with it spraying everywhere).

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Pressure relief or some valve stuck in the system? Fluke bad filter? Any ideas?

What were you doing when "operating" just before it sprung a leak?

When you say the filter housing was cracked do you mean the filter was cracked or the housing the filter screws onto was cracked? Did you inspect the old filter that "appeared" to be cracked to be sure it was in fact cracked?

Have to ask - did you make sure you removed the old O-ring with the old filter? Sometimes the old seal can remain on and it gets "double" ringed causing a bad seal. Hence another benefit of inspecting the old filter.

I have had oil filter gaskets "stick on" like he mentioned, But if it's actually rupturing the filter, you have some "issues" beyond my understanding.

EDIT: I made a "guard" to protect my hydraulic filters, cause it looked way too easy for a stick to knock them off/poke them....I actually had a stick knock off my fuel filter when it was new, hence my making guards.

I was operating with loader moving some dirt.

The filter was ruptured where the cylinder housing is crimped onto the base. I thought maybe I had run over something that hit it and did not put a ton of time into diagnostics at that moment.

The mounting face was clear and flat, no old gasket. The old filter had its o ring still on it.

I had also cleaned the screen tube when I filled it back up, figured it was basically a hydro oil change at that point.

The OP has a hydraulic fluid filter leak; what you are showing is an engine oil filter.

You have a relief valve just below the filter; unscrew the plug, and there will be a spring and spool. See that they are clean/clear.

Update on this (spoiler alert, isn't fixed yet).

I found the relief valve, it's a 17mm plug with a spring and a poppet. I took all that out, inspected (seemed fine), cleaned, and then also cleaned where the poppet seats by taking another drain plug off just below the filter and flushing thru there to try to get any metal shavings, debris, etc.

Put a new filter on. Put some hydraulic oil in it. Fired it up. After a few seconds, filter ruptures again!

I'm going to go read that linked thread, but if anyone has any ideas, I sure appreciate it.

Another update...read thru that other post and then the WSM. Nothing new except maybe take apart the hydraulic fittings to look for a physical blockage.

No I haven't. I suppose I figured that trying 2 more filters would rule debris out, but after seeing that other post, maybe it would indicate debris somewhere in the system (since that other post somehow had a plastic plug in the fitting.
