A HST oil change gone wrong, what would you do?

What would you do?

  • quit over thinking, 2 new filters and 90% new oil will be good enough

  • keep the filters, drop the oil and replace with new SUDT2

  • don't cheap out, new filters and oil is the right thing to do.

I'd just make sure it was full ...

How bad can that possible 10% remaining be in only 75 hours?

Think of it This Way:

Manufacturers publish the maximum capacity for the convenience and assistance of operators. But that does not mean that specific amount of fluid is required for operations. (The lowest-indication on a dipstick…or the lowest portion of the sight-window performs that duty.)

The maxium quantity is published to Prevent Over-Servicing.

Manufacturers KNOW how it will behave during an in-service oil-change… and the indicator at the low-point and size of the reservoir accommodates the needs of the machine. I.E. Kubota knows it’s likely to operate regularly with less than 23 qts…. BUT DO NOT INSTALL more than 23 qts.

Anything above the ”LOW” mark is fine…. Light Duty, Heavy Duty…. doesn’t matter.
