I have a Napa battery in my Kubota and I am very happy with it. Avoid DieHard from Advance Auto IMHO. I've had bad experiences with them. Keep in mind I'm from Virginia though, so very different winters.

No, that's a bad solution for a problem that should never exist in the first place. My rad when I got my tractor was so clogged with dirt that I had to remove it and soak it in a tub of water to loosen it all up from between the fins.

What about the switch(s) the that receive when the steering handles are in the neutral position?

Most lines exposed to danger like that will have some sort of guard over them. Yours might not be designed that way or may just be missing, idk. But if this is a repetitive issue it might be worth fabing something up out of some C channel or something like that.
