ZD326 shutting off

I have a used zd326 I recently picked up at auction. It does have issues starting, and I read a related post in the forum, and I will try those suggestions. After I do get it started, the machine runs fine, and cuts fine. I was cutting for about 2 hours and wanted to take a break. I disengaged the pto, and reduced throttle. After the throttle was just above idle, the machine shut off, and would not start back up. This has happened twice so far. As long as its 50-100% throttle, its fine. Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum. First thing I would check is the fuel filters, fuel lines and tanks for debris. Next would be the electric fuel pump itself. Also check the air cleaners. If they are too clogged, the engine will be starving for air.
We have 3 of these things, and they are excellent. Our oldest just turned over 2,500 hours.

Going out on a limb, since I'm not there in person to see/hear it, but it almost sounds like it's a wiring issue of some sort. Vibration from the 3 cylinder engine is most pronounced at just above idle. I am thinking the vibration is causing wire(s) to either lose contact, or perhaps make contact where they shouldn't be, at that point. I may be wrong.

Yes, I had changed the fuel filters, but it wouldn't hurt to do it again, especially if there's a good bit of trash in there. I will definitely go through all the wiring, given the starter and also a non functioning fuel gauge on the left tank I hadn't mentioned.

the control arm switches, if open (arms in), will prevent the engine from cranking over. So will the PTO switch if the controller thinks the pto is "on". Similarly, the OPC switch (seat switch). Thus if it cranks over fine, those switches are probably working.

I agree, and I’ve had other machines where those switches have caused problems. Haven’t solved the issue yet, but will keep digging. Thanks
