Why are trucks so big?

Well it is nice to see a handful of trucks actually being used 'properly',though I don't see many with 'scratches of honour' on them.
I have plenty of "scratches of honor" on my van...visited the corner where Nevada, Idaho and Utah come together the other day. 13 miles of shoving it down a narrow two-track, through brush and trees:

Back in my earlier days I hd '76 Ford f100. Used the heck out if it hauling hay or overliading it with wood ..normal stuff for a young man to do. Sold it and an MGB when my firstborn came and boght a 1980 Buick Regal. Always missed having a truck. Over the years I've had other 1/2 ton tru ks and then went smaller with 2 different Rangers.
After retirement I wanted to be comfortable so I bougt my 2023 F150. Do I need the 4 doors, no, but it sure makes getting groceries in and out easier. I don't need all of the other bells and whistles either but I sure do enjoy them.
At this stage of life I can afford to treat myself and just enjoy. No need to justify.

I bought this 2002 F-350 7.3L 6-speed dually in late '01 when I lived in Hawaii. I bought it from Sunrise Ford in Fontana, CA and had it shipped to Hawaii. I bought it through Bobby Williams who still works there to this day and who sends me a Christmas card each year.

23 years later I bought a "similar" truck again. I rarely towed with the F-350 in Hawaii, but I bought the F-450 primarily for towing, hauling and road-trip duties. I'm ok with having no "scratches of honor". People can laugh at the shiny truck all they want, and then I'll laugh as I pass them heading up one of the many mountain passes in Montana with a Kaufman trailer in tow. 😂

And before us Chebby guys get too happy, the oil bathed rubber timing belt (actually, the replacing of it) killed my interest in a diesel Tahoe 🥴
Remembered this post a while and thought, Good thing I aint seen one of those at my shop yet...

Then suddenly today i was greeted by this ole girl. A diesel with a timing belt. A baby dirtymax, 2.8 flavor. So cute.

I'll never own one so I'm ok with this LOL.
