What kind of bird?

For some reason they LOVE the stucco on new house next door,even though there's 14 big trees on the lot....

My grandparents had one that would peck at their aluminum siding..... at daylight

Only during certain times of the year. I'm figuring it was being loud and obnoxious trying to attract a mate

Definitely appears to be an angry woodpecker. At my parents lake house, there was one who routinely tried to peck through a neighbors metal vent at around 5am every morning. It was as annoying as you can imagine...

I'd be out there with a .22lr at 04:45.

I've got alot of trees here the pilated woodpeckers have cut in half, then the rot or wind busts them off.
On the grill the pilated tastes alot like crow !!!
The bent bill bird I'd guess is the Liar bird known as the Pinocchio bird.

We have a winner!

They have been nesting in a big cactus in our backyard for about 17 years, one or two broods a year.
The one pictured has an exceptionally long, exceptionally curved beak, most are half that in length & curvature.
Fish & game has no explanation for the exceptional beak, they have never seen one like it.
It is so exaggerated that he has too lay his head sideways to get seeds off the BBQ, (pictured) but it is great for getting seeds from cactus fruits and similar things.
These birds are way bigger than the Little Spiderhunter, 10"-12" long.

I always remember Surfin' Bird from the movie Full Metal Jacket.
One of the scenes while that song was playing showed a Sikorsky H19 Chickasaw landing.
Years ago a Chickasaw was used to place a large AC unit on top of the machine shop building I worked in.
As it came in, it was blasting Surfin' Bird from loudspeakers.

Put two holes in my hard coat stucco. Resisted the urge to grab the 22 so far.
They seem to have stopped in the last year and yes, it is usually @ 5AM

Edit - I actually leave up some standing dead just to give them something to go for...

in the early summertime they'll hammer on my fireplace flue....that'll get your attention. I have no idea why but they do it every year. Usually quit pretty quick too once they realize it ain't no tree.

noisy birds. Pretty but annoyingly noisy.

very similar to the ivory-bill peckerwood.

We had a pair, I have to assume they were the same ones, that used a hole in a big old black locust over the hill for years. They have a very distinctive call, but I havent seen or heard them in the last 2 years.
