Mowing season in full swing here.

Reminder to watch out for these little guys! Mom kept a close eye on me just about the whole time I was mowing.

8 hours? Wow ...
Since you named it Kubota: when will you spray it orange?
Yeah. The discharge outlet was on the opposite side than the previous washer and couldn't reach the drain. It was a 5/8" hose and nobody had anything in stock around here. I had to go to two stores and rig up something to make it work. First time it leaked but second time...no leak. Hopefully it lasts for now.

And don't give me any ideas of painting it orange! I could slap a Kubota sticker on it 🤣

Yes, been there done that (lots of times), a "small job" turning into a full day event.

And don't give me any ideas of painting it orange! I could slap a Kubota sticker on it 🤣
Here you go:
There is a bit of orange in this one already, we can worry about the rest of the washing machine later. 🤣

good deed for this weekend...

new neighbor (approx 28 Y.O.) had a very large tree snap off the other night. He decided to tackle it himself so he went out and bought a brand new husky 460 with a 24" bar. I heard him trimming a bit on saturday afternoon then all was quiet. he texted me to see if I could come look at his saw. He couldn't figure out why it was locked up. I saw the chain immediately, it looked like it was smoked.

I asked if he had filled it with bar oil...ah, nope.

Ok, took his saw to my bench, chain is toast. So, he decided to get another smaller bar for it after I explained to him that a 460 with a 24" bar is quite large for a first timer.

Sunday, he called me over to help install the new 18" bar and chain. Nope. he picked up an 0.050 3/8 but it was an LP bar/chain.

Ok, so I break out my stuff (I had only intended to show him some pointers originally but it was clearly evident that he was way in over his head). I took the tree down for him and hauled off all of the brush. It was a 30" red oak (28"x32") where I dropped it from about waist height.

I'm still scratching my head as to what he thought he was going to do with this tree even if he had managed to get it safely on the ground.

anyway, here is another neighbors son helping out...

I could barely lift it with the mini...but it did it.

neighbor tree2.JPG

after neighbor tree was taken care of I finished what I had intended to do today...load up an old shed to go to the transfer station. Finally got done what I wanted to accomplish for the day at 6 pm.

transfer station load.JPG

I just couldn't let the neighbor hurt himself with a chainsaw. But dude, what were you thinking????

Went over to a friends house that had lost a daughter a few months ago. She knew she was dying, and specified she wanted a memorial tree planted in her parents back yard. So the BH77 made short work of the hole. Ornimental Flowering Pear

I had a tractor day yesterday but it was completely devoid of any orange, with the exception of the Kubota hat I was wearing while helping a coworker bale hay.

First up was a trip to the John Deere Pavilion to see some really big stuff. This was the first time that I've ever sat in a combine harvester and this thing is massive. There were a couple of quad tracks with the best looking rear end I've ever seen, and one heck of a quick hitch. I really like the covers and buttons for the rear remotes.

After checking out some green stuff, I headed to my coworker's property to check out more green stuff. He worked for John Deere for a couple of decades, as did the VP of engineering who I report to. He showed me the three John Deere tractors that he has along with a combine harvester and bunch of other neat farm equipment. Then it was time to work and we both stacked bales as his 13 year old daughter drove the tractor and ran the baler.

It all went very well with one exception. At one point she had the clutch pedal depressed and we were free-wheeling down a hill. Her dad was yelling "let the clutch out" and "press the brakes". She eventually did the former in quick fashion which virtually brought us to a dead stop. Her dad and I both hit the deck with bales falling all over us! My left shoulder is still sore from that.

Check out the last photo of the JD rolling coal. Who needs DPF? 😂

Finished mowing late last night. So this morning, I moved a couple things back to their place after mowing. I know the importance of counter weight but today, I reminded myself why we use it. I picked up this log no problem, but trying to drive with it over uneven ground was not happening, even with filled rear tires. Went back and put my heavy duty box blade on and moved it much more safely.
Then I turned the compost pile with the tractor. No pictures of that.

What are you using to turn the compost? Forks, bucket, or other? I use the forks (they do really well) mostly to aerate it, but if I have bin/station open then I use the bucket and transfer from one to the next. Would like to find a fire sale on some manure forks but no luck at my price point.

Did the price on the combine help keep the checkbook closed tight?! (Last time I checked those things getting dangerously close to to 1M!…they are fun to drive, even just to start one…incredible power…no mistaken that for my B or MX, that’s for sure.)

I did not a thing on my orange monsters today, but I did something for them…Christmas come early when I came home and saw the package at the door! (Not really Santa and his elves, but Ken’s Bolt on is a pretty close second!). A pile of shirts with a front pocket and some swag for my girls was much appreciated. 😉

Thanks for asking, I should have tried the forks. I put the bucket back on and pulled it back, scoop, and dump several times. Appreciate the advise, this my first season composting. It's mostly a collection site for the wife's garden clean out.

To me it’s whatever works best for the individual and the bin set up…the forks require multiple lifts per pin, but I just back up and inch over and do over and over until I cover the whole bin…it also starts the second bin as I work through it…I have three and start at one side and work my way across. With the forks I just lift straight up and it does a great job to aerate.

My newest acre should of been mowed a month ago. It was 16-20" tall but the mower knocked it down.

Have you thought about adding more forks to your frame? If you could find some brick forks, that might be better, they're thinner than standard forks.

I never thought I would enjoy wrestling extra fork times on and off, but that sure makes a lot of sense.

(I thought about adding some hay bale times, but they are pretty pricey as new for my uses…id really like to find something rusting in a fence row that I could shine up with some use.)

Well my BX turned into a forklift today of sorts. We bought a new Blackstone griddle smoker combo. It took five of us to load it in the back of our 4Runner and let me tell ya, it just fit. This thing weighs 380# and I knew with just my wife and I; I had to get creative. I put a strap around the length of the carton, pulled the BX up to the gate, pulled the box out into the bucket and after fastening straps to the bucket I started pulling it out. Plan was to lower it out on a couple makeshift ramps to get it on the ground. Just for kicks I decided to curl the bucket to put more tension on the box to control the drop. Low and behold the box lifted and I was able to not only get it out of the car safely but was able to drive it into the garage for the assembly process. That BX saved two old peoples backs for sure.
