Yes, quite a few Kubotas use BSPT on the valves and lines.
You will need to find out which fitting are on the lines, they might be NPT and you have BTPT on your valve, or vice versa.

I'm assuming that the lines are NPT because, like I said, the orig couplers fit really snug on them with about half of the threads still exposed when tight. The new couplers leave no threads. I have not changed anything else on the lines.

Also curious is that I just reviewed the invoice. It lists the couplers as "1/4 HNV14NPTF" (with p/n of 7j612-66323). The p/n matches the packaging for the couplers. Doesn't that indicate that I did in fact receive NPT couplers?

Give me a picture of what your dealing with.

First pic is on the tractor - new coupling on the top. You can see how it's pinching the white cap tether.
Second pic is of the old coupler sitting on the package for the new coupler. Old coupler is printed with NPTF, just like the new one.

Ok I think we might have a communication issue.
As it looks like that connection is perfectly fine.
Did you use pipe dope on the threads?

I'll bet the taper cut in the new couplers is just deeper cut than the old couplers.

Just highlighting this question, because the OP may not get the point.

It is said that Teflon tape use is a concern, because if you get some of it in the hydraulic system, it can damage the HST. ( Not sure about the hydraulic pump on a manual transmission tractor)

Pipe dope is preferred.

Thank you. That is my best guess too at this point - that the threads are just cut a bit more deeply. It's not like they didn't snug up at all or that the plastic ring was the only point of resistance. It's just that I wasn't expecting those plastic pieces to get pinched in there so tight where there was slack before.

And no, I didn't use anything on the threads. I was prepared to but saw no trace of anything on them originally. Whoever assembled those fittings initially used teflon tape on the male (nipple) ends but nothing on the female ends.

Yea the teflon tape will make the threads seat faster.
I don't ever recommend teflon tape on hydraulics because one peice of it getting into the system can cause some bad issues!
