In my location, the highway department uses volcanic cinders on snow packed and icy roads. The cinders stick in the snow/ice and make a rough road surface like sandpaper.

Why would you use something that’s corrosive to your wheels when there’s many better options?

My wheels are powdercoated and I’m running tubes. Not sure how it’s going to contact any metal, even if it leaks.

Calcium Chloride can be used safely if you add a corrosion inhibitor.
