SUDT2 Price Surprise

As a retired Energy Engineer of over 30 years I have developed a permanent case of “Analysis Paralysis”. So in gathering all the appropriate filters and fluids to maintain the BX I searched high and low (with spreadsheet of course) for the best deals – mostly for the least expensive source for SUDT2 or equivalent.

I figured I’d just bite the bullet on the Kubota filters and the get “right ones” all at once direct from the local dealer. But I was POSITIVE they would be over priced for the SUDT2. Here’s a couple examples of what I found (pre-tax). Wally Mart – Kubota SUDT2 for about $52 / gallon – in stock. Amazon – Kubota SUDT2 for about $50 / gallon – free shipping. Most other places were north of that. Some WAY NORTH.

I walked into the dealer to pick up the filters and engine oil and thought I would just ask how much the SUDT2 was. $30 / gallon – in stock!!! I was flabbergasted! If that’s a word that still gets used these days. Wasn't even on sale, just the regular price. Good thing I hadn’t ordered it on-line yet.

I bought the Kubota SUDT as well from a local dealer (in Ireland). Cheaper than any of the Kubota approved oils I could find on the internet or locally; wasted a lot of time on the internet search too.

Also with some other spare parts, like seal rings or water hoses, I was positively surprised by the genuine Kubota part price. Particularly keeping in mind that the tractor in question is over 30 years old.

SUDT is called PUDT here in Canada an $40(5 litre jug...) at dealer, $60 from Amazon.

Pretty girl... if it includes 'with benefits'... if you're not married.

I buy a LOT from Amazon here in the USA but I don't buy brand name (Kubota, Ford, etc), on Amazon because it might be counterfeit.

The reason it is so much more then for a Kubota dealer, is because Kubota doesn't sell it whole-sale. Store are buying it for the same price as you do when you go into a Kubota dealer. I was supprised when I bought a gallon and the parts guy told me this

When did the Canadian dealers start selling PUDT ? Never heard of it ? Why is it called something different than SUDT ?

That might be what happened when I recently bought a small microwave from Amazon. The regular price was $145 but they had a return for only $115, so I bought it. Then went to the Sharp website to register the warranty and they sell them for $100, the regular price. I'm usually more careful but I got tired of looking.

Have no idea why though I 'could' go to the dealer and ask the pretty counter girl
I suspect P-UDT is made in Canada, and can't be called SUDT as not made in the USA ?

All I know about oil and grease names is that the same thing often has different names in different countries (same language). It does probably have to do with the oil company that produces the oil, but I don’t know that as fact.
