The sight glass on my L3010 had yellowed over the years, and it was difficult to see the fluid level. I added some of that (red) John Deere dye, and now the sight glass is easy to read.

Don't mean to hijack this thread, but should the hydraulic fluid level be checked with the loader up, down, 50%?

Both of the owner's manuals for my tractors state the same procedure, the only difference being that one has a dipstick and the other a sight glass. The procedure is as much about safety as it is about accuracy. Most owner's manuals don't mention front end loaders since they're an option, but the loader is an implement.

@TheOldHokie and others should be able to confirm or refute, but I would expect the volume of oil in a front end loader to be virtually constant regardless of the position of the pistons in each of the cylinders. There will be significant pressure differences on either side of the pistons in the double acting cylinders during use, but the total volume should basically remain the same.
