They are saying that the fuel was bad and stopped up the filter in the water separator, disallowing fuel to go beyond there. But if there is a filter in the filler pump, my theory is, it would have to have no fuel in it then.
When a water separator filter becomes plugged, the fuel stops flowing, it does not just disappear.

The mechanic did not take off the filler pump "lid" or inspect it, unless he returned the previous dirt back on it aftwards. He says there is no filter. Others say there is. Kubota has said both.

Unless someone has changed the electric fuel lift pump, there is a filter in the pump.
How/where has Kubota said both?

Every Kubota SVL95-2 and SVL97-2 was manufactured with a filtered electric fuel pump.

It remains in the shop, awaiting injector testing.
Once the injectors are removed and sent to the Kubota-approved test facility, the results are e-mailed within 24 to 72 hours, the same as with a fuel test.

Kubota provides a list of approved test facilities. They also require a picture of the fuel filter installed on the machine to prove it has a filter with 3 microns or smaller filtration.

Ok you have thrown me a little with terminology / verbiage. This is no way meant as an insult or bash on you. Very possibly because some mechanic / dealer is telling you these words. Filler pump to me would mean the fuel station or holding tanks filler pump and filter. I think you actually mean the units electric fuel pump( first picture). It looks like that model has 3 filters: Electric fuel pump (commonly called the lift pump), cartridge filter. One separator cartridge filter, normally used for large debris and water (if water was involved it should have sent a warning to the operator). And a spin on filter for final filtration. If they are saying the filter was clogged, and bypassed debris and contamination did they show you the filters? I most certainly would like to see that proof of contamination. I also would have thought they would have done a fuel quality test or at least kept a sample of the contamination to show the owner of the unit, that's what I would have done.
I can understan the confusion with the terminology. I am using the mechanics words. They gave me (the separator filter, after some problem locating it), said it absolutely did not have a filter in the electric fuel pump (glad to know the correct terminology, thanks), and could not locate the remaining filter. No testing of fuel, and flushed the unit with their fuel. thanks for the response, this has been a difficult situation to deal with. I wasn't really at a point in my life where I wanted to to stop and learn AND actually try to understand how a diesel engine works. Any insight is greatly appreciated.
