Looks like I may have about half a quart extra oil in the BX23. Should I be worried? How much overfull is too much overfull?

Overfilled can be worse than underfilled!

Over full is BAD simply because the moving parts will whip the oil - and place a zillion air bubbles in it! And we all know air is not a good lubricate!

Get under and pull plug and remove a good bit - more than you need, tighten plug and if you wish - add the oil back to the upper mark.

Now IF you have a large syringe laying around and some small tubing - you can suck out a bit via the dipstick passage. Most of us are forced to do this on water craft since the plug would make a hellva mess in the boat.

I would remove oil filter, drain then re-install. Run engine, check oil level, repeat if needed until correct oil level is reached.
