Need some help on a problem with my 01 rtv900.
Steering seemed to be working ok stopped it one day came back an hour latter and could only steer to the rt and not very well.
Jacked up the front end everything seems to be connected.
Wheels will not move with either the eng running or not.
Flushed the system I did see a lot of gray metallic stuff floating around.
I have a pressure gauge that I put in line at the pump had 1300psi in relief.
Also hooked up the gauge at the steering cyl had 1300psi at both ends when imove the steering wheel against its stop.
I'm thinking the steer cyl is bypassing internal.
Any ideas ?
Thanks

Try Google search. Might need to change fluid and filter from what I found searching rtv900 no steering.

First thing is I'm not sure you have the year right? I don't even see where that model was made that far back, 2004 looks like the first year.
Give me the exact model# and or the serial # and I can give you better info.

Just from what you describe, the steering controller is where your problem is most likely, disconnect the 2 output lines, if they both flow at the same time then the controller is bad. ;)

That model is a 2006 to early 2009.
I'm not sure what the PSI should be, it will be high, like in the range of 1500.
I'll look and see what I can find out.

thanks, i have about 1300 psi at the pump thats with the steering wheel all the way to rt or left.
i also have that at the steer cyl on both hose in one dirrection or the other.
i had heard the steering on the rtv has the type that allows you to steer when you loose assist.
is there a way to test that?.

thanks

It's full hydrostatic steering, not really assisted steering.
If it's working correctly you can steer with the unit turned off, as the steering controller will push hydraulic fluid around the loop.

P/s issue figured out.
I took both lines off controll valve like you suggested I have fluid out of only one hose at a time while turning in ether direction.
But one thing I noticed was with one hose connected to cyl and one hose off while turning in one direction fluid would come out of other cyl fitting with out any cyl rod movement telling me it was bypassing internally.
I took the cyl off and took it apart and found a retaining spring clip for center piston broken allowing the piston to move back and forth with no rod movement thanks for the help I learned a lot just waiting for new cyl now.
