No tractor yet, but have been looking at an L3240 used that the owner claims does not have a mid PTO. At the stealership, they charged extra for a mid PTO. Can this option be added to the used tractor, or is it rear PTO here on out? Thanks for all replies. Mid would be used to mount a front snowblower.

NO a mid pto is not an aftermarket option is has to come built in from the factory. The dealer charges a bit more for them due to the popular demand of having a mid pto really.
I'm pretty sure it can be added aftermarket. Just talking to Barlows about adding one on a 3540 for around $350.
I'm shopping right now and sorry to highjack the thread but I'm wondering if a mid PTO can be added to a l4740 as easily as a smaller GL.

I don't have one, but was told when I bought mine, it could be added later if I needed to though I am sure it would have been cheaper to buy as a package.
Humm I had been told a few times that it could not be added on extra, had to come from the factory that way.

Eric, I have been told the same thing and I believe that may be true on some and not others, I don't know the breakdown, but mine is a cabbed 5740and I was assured I could get one added by the dealer.
Yeah sounds like it may be model specific. My question would be whats the need for a mid pto on a tractor that large if it doesnt already have one?

I am guessing for a snow blower. Keep in mind I know nothing about snow blowers, so the "guessing" part.
Yes, that was it exactly. I was looking at a used tractor with no mid PTO and wondered about the addition for a snowblower. I have since been looking at an Erskine snowblower that one tows...don't want to back up.
