This is the current state of it. Started last year with my B8200. Continuing on with my 23s. The picture does not do it any justice as to just how steep everything is.

Said the same thing taking a pic of our pond dam this weekend.

Picture made it look like nothing, meanwhile I can barely walk down it without falling.

Looks like you got something good going on though. Keep the pics coming, love seeing progress.

That's quite a project for a B8200. Looks like you're going to need a terrace above the pond to keep it from silting in.

What is a food forest????
While I am not endorsing this project, this is a good description of it:

"A food forest, also called a forest garden, is a diverse planting of edible plants that attempts to mimic the ecosystems and patterns found in nature. Food forests are three dimensional designs, with life extending in all directions – up, down, and out.

Generally, we recognize seven layers of a forest garden – the overstory, the understory, the shrub layer, the herbaceous layer, the root layer, the ground cover layer, and the vine layer. Some also like to recognize the mycelial layer, layer eight (mushrooms). Using these layers, we can fit more plants in an area without causing failure due to competition."

I need terraces everywhere. All clay and rock so not too much wash out though.

Interesting. Be curious how it works in practical implementation.

We have a local edible mushroom producer that might be implementing some of the principles....

Food forests are part of the permaculture world that a lot of people have implemented in their “homestead”.

See this link (if you are interested) for one person’s experience and “inventing” the permaculture movement.

Thanks for that. I didn't like using the term "permaculture" because I don't like talking about science and politics. Holtzer is more my style.

Getting there. Another day or two. Hit rock bottom @ 9'. Not trying to make it deep, just needed the material. About 90' across so far. will be about 110' when done. The pic is so deceiving. Just to the right of my tractor between the two green spots, the slope is probably 60 degrees. Further to the right (tire tracks) where I exit the hole. the slope is probably 40ish degrees.

N.Y,
I'm confused. After a year a runoff pond should be full. Are you going to have to pump water in to fill it, are you in a drought, or does it need bentonite to seal it?

I diverted the runoff and have been draining it when it gets water in it. I don't want it to fill until next spring at least. The backside of my dam is probably over 12' tall. Would like for everything to settle first.
