It appears the shuttle assembly is at the very front of the main transmission gearbox, and should come out through the clutch housing once the tractor is split at the engine.
Anyone had one apart and/or care to share some insight on the experience? Could it be as simple as removing the transmission top cover and then slipping the shuttle out the front as a unit?

Sorry but one must split tractor between engine & clutch housing to R&R synchronizers in sync shuttle on this model. I had to perform that task several yrs back on a M4900 that was stuck in reverse.

Do you already have the WSM?
If not I would get it before you dive in, they have the breakdown on the replacement / repair steps.

No, I don't currently have the WSM, and yes I fully expect to split the tractor at the clutch housing. Am I wrong in assuming the shuttle unit, complete with synchronizer will come out through the exposed opening in the clutch housing without another split at the back of the transmission?
I have yet to fully commit to this project, and was hoping for some basic thoughts on the process from someone who's been there/done that. Not expecting any sort of "play by play" with all the details. I expect I will purchase the manual, even though it will probably end up gathering dust on a shelf along with a number of other "one time use" books I have. I know there are PDF versions on CD out there for a few bucks, but I just can't get the hang of the page by page scrolling up/down, back and forth from section to section.

Yes you're correct sync shuttle housing is accessible once tractor has been split between engine & clutch housing. Is your tractor open station or cab model?

Thanks 100 td. I can't beat that for the price. It took a while but I finally found the shuttle removal, tear down pages and have that bookmarked for quick access next time.

I haven't seen it yet, but it's an open station DT model. Apparently the reverse side of the synchro has given up the ghost. I'm mainly trying to get a handle on what might be involved in the access and replacement before I agree to get into it. I believe it seems to be pretty much as I expected after viewing the online parts book. It looks like the tractor split portion will be the bulk of the work.
