Running a nice M7040 comfy cab with the LA 1153? loader. A lot of operations are loader intensive, filling a dump truck, moving big piles of material etc. Often if moving a big pile I'll run in low 2 or 3 to keep the rpms up help the loader speed. So the M40 pump is rated at 11 ish gpm and the M85 is rated at 17, it looks like about 16hp to drive 11gpm @ 2600 psi versus 25hp for 17gpm.

I'm not often using max pressure, just on breakout but really don't like running the engine in the upper 2/3 of the rpm range. Has anyone tried this swap?

Have you tried asking your dealer? They might be able answer your concerns or turn up your pump. The M7040 is a ag tractor maybe you need a pay loader or at least a industrial tractor. I run heavy equipment for a job and you still have to run up the rpm's when your trying to load fast.

I feel ya I'm personably not happy about the speed of the loader myself . I that's my biggest compliant about the m7040 ..i havent got a grapple yet but i feel i will be really unhappy when i do .. I wouldn't buy another and would sell mine for pay off in a heart beat .

Well there isn't so much as a turn-up for the pump, the pressure is good just well the volume seems abysmal, the small pump is used on the 50/70 horse models and the bigger pump on the 80/90. Looked over the pump this weekend while doing fluid and filter changes. It looks like a typical SAE type pump flange with bolt on connections. Have to see if I can find some parts listings and see if its a swappable part.

We have a front grapple with a 2x8 cyl, its fast but doesn't deliver log crushing power, you have to bump it now and again as the logs shift so things don't fall out. Its fast but have been thinking of upgrading to a 3x8 cyl.

So looking through the parts diagrams, the M7040 with my options has the hydraulic pump being driven direct off the shaft and its aligned front/rear. The M85/90 looks like the same pump, but its aligned side to side in the same orientation as the oil filters and driven by a bevel gear with what looks like a 1:1 ratio. Keeping in mind that only the pumping gears need to be a bit bigger, it might be doable. I think I want to swing by the Kubo dealer with some calipers and measure the OD on the suction/discharge pipes.

Anyone work at a dealership?

Turck, you're spot on, its not an industrial, its an AG, Yeah, even my 1969 CK580 you can drive the bucket full on into a stiff pile and just use the massive breakout force to roll it back and scoop it up. Night and day and the CK580's pistons are many times the size of the ones on the LA1153 loader.

Has anyone made any progress on this project. My 7040 is terribly slow. I know some have recommended getting an industrial loader. The main thing I am doing is moving hay. It is too slow for that. I talked to my dealer about the pump upgrade, they checked with Kubota. They told them "no". If I could come up with a "bolt on" pump upgrade, I would do it myself. The pump is made by Shimadzu. I haven't been able to come up with a replacement with just the numbers off the pump. I am willing to use the Kubota 8540 pump if it will fit. The tractor has the power for the extra volume. It seems a shame to have to work so hard for an upgrade that I feel should've been offered.

No major progress yet, I'd love to have both pumps in hand to compare but not friends with my local dealer anymore after a few serious issues. Even to find another pump with the same mounting points.
