My hot water heaters last about 11 years, and after changing the last one out 2 years ago, I am now officially "Team SharkBite"

I couldn't believe how easy it was.

I think it took me a total of 1 hour to remove the old one, drag the new one down the stairs and hook it up using those SharkBite connectors.

Mentioning SharkBite fittings is like discussing oil or tooth bars. There is disagreement on reliability. Some insist they will fail, sooner than later. ;)

Why do you reheat your hot water?

curious.... as to why the 'no PEX within 18" rule'. Any insights ??
Supposedly has to do with thermo rise and overheating the lines and causing them to fail, but I personally think its poppycock!

I could maybe understand on older gas water heaters that the lines would be too close to the plastic pipes.
But my water has PVC for an exhaust pipe, so I don't think that's an issue!

A lot of codes are based on old obsolete junk .

The nice part is I can spin off the copper without another cut or sweating copper

We have a hot water heater at our church for the dishwashing machine. The domestic HW isn't hot enough, so the booster heater raises the water temperature to satisfy the DOH requirements.

Yeah. It has me questioning a lot on this install. Tank is now 5 yrs old. The box up top is an electronic anode. With our well water the conventional anode does not stop the wonderful smell off the hot water. With the electronic unit, smell is gone. All my water lines are Pex so the copper does the Union to the Pex. I’m thinking they saved a couple bucks and skipped the dielectric unions. Interesting thing is the install manual for the unit says to use the Teflon tape to prevent the corrosion from happening and does not call out using the unions hence my title for this thread. As for tightness, on the original it was on that copper only around 1/16th of an inch. Not much of a seal. Had a good amount of rust built up between the top of the nipple and the copper. Need to source a dip tube for the cold side and then have more fun.
I been on job site's in Ohio... Dielectric unions aren't used on HW tanks? In my state they are used! My Father-in-law needed shut-off's replaced on a kitchen sink. He called a plumber he came in looked at them...Said I have to go to store and buy them?
Large (New) van and doesn't have stock what a joke. Here's the sad part the bill was $186! Two standard compression shut-offs at 15-20 dollars each...

that plastic tube only slooows down the destruction, since there's still copper and galv iron on the OUTSIDE that moisture(aka water ) can create the electrolysis effect......
now you 'could' use a teflon fitting to connect to.....
