Let me give you a little history on this tractor in case there is some thing here that I missed that could be related to the current problem. 3yrs. ago they parked the tractor because they thought they were getting diesel in the motor oil, it had gotten water in the trans housing and froze locking transfer case so it wouldn't move got that thawed and was able to load on a trailer, got it to my shop, we pulled the injectors and had them tested, no leaks, while waiting for that we drained motor and hyd. oil and refilled with new filter and cleaned hyd. filter, then thought, hyd. low motor oil high, pulled hyd. pump, seal on shaft had come out, put back in place, tested for hyd. pressure, none tested steering pressure, none, pulled priority valve found sleeve stuck, cleaned, now have 1500 psi at steering and 2100 psi hyd. but lift arms not working right pulled position control valve every thing looked good, distance between plate and joint end 2.381, specs call for 2.342-2.382. I measured poppet valve lock nuts and put them back to the same measurement, assuming it was set right to start with. So in trying to adjust position control feed back rod, I have to lengthen rod several turns to get relief valve to close and then lift arms lower and won't do up unless rod is shorten and then relief valve opens again. Some things not right there.??

Hey folks, I haven't got any reply's to my lift arm problem, so L pulled the rockshart again to check position control valve. I adjusted valve spool to mid point of the specs of 2.342 - 2.382, so around 2.362. so my question is on the poppet valve it says to measure the plate to lock nuts when disassembling and lock the nuts to that measurement on assembly, if the lock nuts came loose you wouldn't have that measurement so how would you know were to put the locknuts?

Good Question?
I'd have to look in the WSM to see if they provide any more info.

I was not sure what your problem statement was so did not try to respond.

As I understand the way the three point system is supposed to work the arms go to maximum lift position and if not properly adjusted they hit a stop, hydraulic pressure exceeds the relief valve setting and you get the squealing of the relief valve opening and closing quickly. The feed back rod is then adjusted (increase length) a few turns so that the squealing is stopped and lift is not quite as high. Then adjust it per the below instructions and lock the nuts against the tab.

If that is what you are doing and it is not working correctly then I have no idea what is causing the problem. Please restate the problem if possible for further help.

Thanks but what RPM should the engine be at? I'm going to play with this at different RPMS, will let you know.

I don’t think it really matters that much what rpm you use. But do it at medium engine speed (2000RPM?) and it will be fine.

@TGT

I was thinking about this and have not seen any evidence that you are aware of the three point speed control that limits how fast the arms can lower when the position control calls for it to lower If you are aware of that then sorry for this discussion.

Under the front edge of the seat, between your calves when seated is a knob that sort of looks like a water faucet knob (Idaho may know that as a hose bib?). There should be words and arrows in the face of the casting that say “fast” and “slow” or “lock”. To get the arms to lower (without any weight on them) that knob has to be turned all the way towards the “fast” setting.

If it is stuck, don’t try to force it to turn too hard! The steel rod is not that strong and could shear!
Spray it with a good penetrating oil and then try to move it back and forth, it may already be at one of the limits so might not turn any further in that direction.

Good Luck
