How hard is it to get the bushing out?
Do I have to remove the whole assembly or is just taking the steering wheel off , pulling the seal out let me get to the bushing???

Messicks shows the same seal and bushing for the top of the steering column no matter if it's manual or power steering.

A suggestion not to be critical but to get you more useful responses.

Providing more history to help us understand what problem you are trying to solve will get you more useful responses.

Oil leak, flopping steering wheel.........

Including exploded parts illustrations makes it easier for someone to understand exactly what part you are referring to.

Currently, I have to go to the Messicks site, open the parts illustrations and try and figure out what you are trying to explain.

If you are looking at seals on the outside of the steering box, generally, their job is to keep water and dirt out of the assembly not to keep oil in.

Recently there was a thread started by an owner wanting to fix an oil leak. around the output shaft of the steering box.

He decided he needed to replace seal #80

In fact this seal, as I commented previously, is just to keep water and dirt out of the steering it has nothing to do with oil leaks.

In reality he needed to replace #40 which is called a gasket by Messicks but which in reality is a rubber seal.

Oil leaking at the very top of steering column and steering wheel is somewhat sloppy , moving side to side. Plus I have no idea if my tractor is manual or power steering , but seal and bushing are the same part number on Messicks list.
BUSHING- BUSH

SEAL- SEAL,OIL
38240-16390 $18.92
I'm thinking the bushing and seal need replaced.
Just need to know how hard it is to get the bushing out.

Are there any hydraulic hoses attached to the steering box?

The seal you mention is for keeping water and dirt out not oil in.

EDIT:

I think you have power steering. Otherwise having oil escaping where you describe is most unlikely.

Study the page from the WSM.

The seals needing replacing are in the steering box not at the top of the steering column as you suggested.

Parts #36, 38, 39, 40

The seal and bushing, as Dave_eng stated are just a dirt seal and shaft bushing. The fact that you have oil leaking from the top of the column implies that your tractor has power steering. The oil seal that contains hydraulic oil in the steering valve from getting into the column is #370.

OK, I'll have another look and see if any hoses go to steering box.
I'll take pictures . . .
Where the shaft coming out at the top just under the steering wheel moves side to side also.
Most likely from using the steering wheel to help getting up into the seat.
Thanks for all the help.

OK, there are hydraulic lines running up the left side to the steering box.
So I need item #370.
So what about the sloppiness of the steering wheel at the very top moving at least a 1/8 inch side to side where the shaft comes out of the column.
Again , I thank all of you for helping me with this problem.
. . . . . . . .
I'm also looking at a repair manual suggested on the top sticky post.

No idea exactly how your steering column is supported at the top but on my L185 there are rubber bushing things to support the column to the fuel tank. The tank has a tunnel through it for the column and these rubber pieces get shoved over the column and into the tunnel to fill the space and support the column.

You may want to see if there is something similar to support your column.

Mine got less movement when I installed those missing parts.

The diagram shows a seal and nylon bushing at the top of the steering tube.
