Hi All, I'm new to this site. The tractor ran fine when I parked it, but now it won't start. I turn the key, the dash lights come on, but it will not turn over (no clicking, no noise). The battery was replaced. We have been going through the WSM workshop manual steps- starting system checking. We checked the main switch, and think it is ok. We removed the starter and it seems ok, and so does the magnetic switch. We checked the starter relay and we think that is ok. We checked the safety switches on the clutch, PTO, and main gear shifter, and we think they are ok.

We are now checking the glow plugs. Test 1) volt meter on the lead terminal to glow plug: with the key turned to glow plug 12.4v; with the key turned to crank we get 12.3v. Battery is 12.5v. Test 2) all three glow plugs have 1.3 or 1.4 ohm. The spec is 0.9 ohm. Is there anything else? Do you think changing the glow plugs is the solution? Thanks.

The glow plugs won't have anything to do with it not turning over but they could keep it from firing while turning. My guess would be that the clutch pedal switch is not making contact when the clutch is depressed.

Its almost always a safety switch that causes issues like this.

Check the PTO lever - throw it on then off

Move the HST pedal ( assuming HST)

Bounce on the seat a bit as you turn the key.

Somewhere in the system as mentioned - a safety switch is not engaging.

It was just faulty wiring by the PTO safety switch. I'm more familiar with tractor now, so not a total loss of time. All is working now. Thanks all who took time to offer advice!
