The best part is that people actually pay a lot of money for this primer grey. Mercedes-Benz in Germany charges 3689€ extra (that is $4126 with todays exchange rate) for this grey (for the E-"Class" for example) that looks as if the owner could not afford a top coat.

I think this is an effect of global dumbing down.

Is this different to people paying more for 100 year old barn wood than going price for premium cabinet lumber? Or how bout gals paying tall dollars for britches that look like wild cats been fighting in them? Rhetorical questions since everyone knows latest fad drives prices.

It's not just gray, there are a whole slew of colors these days that seem to be inspired by baby poop colors.
Baby poop yellow, diarrhea green, spew off white, etc..

Saw a Mazda suv recently in machinery gray. Touched up my “White” snowblower a while ago using gray primer and clear coat. The closest match I could find.

It never dawned on me, but there are a lot of gray colored vehicles now….

Any make or model; there’s tons of them.

I grew up on a small farm. When we would butcher the chickens in the fall dad would just chop of the wings saying who the H would want to eat skin and bones but the dog.
Then years later someone convinced people skin and bones are delicious.
Not me.
And yes the gray primer or turd brown toyota has is just odd.
I see ford has a new 'anti matter blue' looks black But from over there it looks blue...kinda cool.

I am guessing that the auto body people might like this trend. Matching color versus the metallics must be easier. Am I wrong?

And then there's the fashion of matte paint. I've seen it on Mercedes and BMW, but also Kia, VW, Alfa Romeo and others. The horror of it! As if someone took a scouring pad to them (which reminds me a story from almost 40 years ago, when I worked for Jaguar Belgium and a customer washed his brand new XJS V12 convertible with a metal scouring pad...)

As for those "neutral" (grey, black, white) colors, in Belgium that is due to the explosion of lease cars (both private and commercial), where used vehicles must be easy to resell.

And then there's the interiors... A grey, black or white car can be gorgeous if combined with a colorful interior (red, green, tan, blue, white etc.), but nowadays the vast majority of car interiors are just boring black, with different color options not even available or extremely limited.

I don’t get the attraction of matte despite not hating on the look. Have seen it as a bit of a trend with expensive custom paint, more so a few years ago. The ones I’ve seen show EVERY imperfection from 10’ away about as well as close scrutiny of a normal paint job under paintless dent repair lights.

Seems like every time wife and I are in the market for a vehicle we start by saying we’re NOT buying white this time. Somehow always end up with white, so I guess I have no standing to criticize color choices of others. To each their own, I suppose. 🤷‍♂️

Way back when, when my wife was carrying our first daughter, all I saw was pregnant women...everywhere. After the daughter was born I saw maybe one pregnant women a year.

NOW AFTER READING this thread, all I am seeing is bland colored cars!

Thanks Skeets! 🤬🤣
