looking for some answers/advice.
I have a new MX5200 4wd, loader, gear drive.
I purchased last November. From first use and now 188 hours. Once I've been operating tractor for about an hour or 2, I can smell hydraulic oil. I asked the dealer about it, they said since everything is working fine. Keep using it. So I have been. When I washed the dust off a few months ago, steam comes off the transmission area. I purchased a laser temp gun, then used the tractor again for a couple of hours and the temperature get to 226 F.
What can be causing high temps?

Just idling, the hydraulic oil stays in the 115-120 range. It did go back to the dealer, they couldn't find anything. They ran it for several hours but didnt drive it.

Gonna ask some obvious questions that I am sure you have an answer for

Fluid level up to spec on dipstick/glass site?

Correct fluid?

New Filter? aftermarket or Kubota filter?

When was filter changed recently?

Have no idea about your model - is there a cooling fan or hydraulic radiator that is used to cool the fluid?

190-200 is a typical number for lets say an automatic transmission hauling a large load on a truck.....but I would think 226 might be a bit high!

I have placed my hand on the cylinder of my backhoe after an hours worth of work, been too hot to touch but I dont think it was 226.

The smell is probably the oil coming from the hydraulic vent unless there is an obvious leak.

Yes, fluid level is correct, and kubota hydraulic fluid and filters. All filters and fluids replaced at 51 hours. Oil and filter changed at 150 hours, as well as hydraulic filter. All kubota filters and fluid.
No leaks or drips.
There is not a hydraulic cooler. Only radiator and fuel cooler.
From my understanding the hydrostatic tractors have a hydraulic cooler. Mine is geared

Looks like you have a PTO shaft hooked up to the tractor?

Were you using the PTO before taking the temp/picture?

Could something be causing a relief valve to be constantly discharging oil which will raise temps.

Example, a 3 pt hitch where the feedback rod is not adjusted properly.

When the 3 pt arms reach the top of their movement, the valve sending fluid to the 3 pt lift cylinder should kick off thus putting the hydraulic system back to low pressure.

This image is for a M5660 just to give you an idea of what the hardware looks like.

6 ft land pride rotary cutter. It doesn't seem to matter what is hooked up. I use a 6ft landscape rake to grade my roads. I get the same temps

Thanks, I will look at that and see what I can find.

See on the pyrometer where your emissivity is set to 0.95? This is what makes IR pyrometers so prone to error.

The surface condition of the measurement area is very importanté (different colors and shiny versus matte).

For the least amount of error clean the same area and paint a small spot flat black... not glossy. Set your emissivity to 1.0 and re-measure.

Thanks I'll look at that
